The Bathurst Business Chamber is standing strong with the Nguyen family and Anam Restaurant. We’ve written a letter to Minister Giles, advocating on their behalf.

For nearly a decade, the Nguyen family and Anam Restaurant have been vital to Bathurst’s cultural and economic landscape. Their dedication, use of local products, and resilience during COVID-19 have made them a cherished part of our community.

Nguyen Family Update

✅ ⚖️ On Thursday I caught up with Duc Nguyen and community supporters to discuss the progress of his family’s bid to stay in Australia.

🍲 The Nguyen family operates the popular Anam Vietnamese Restaurant in Bathurst. They are well known and much-loved in the Bathurst area. They work extraordinarily hard, but through no fault of their own, their work visas have been knocked back.

⚡️The community has rallied around the Nguyen family to support their bid to remain in Australia.

⚖️ Their campaign has now entered its final and decisive phase. A Federal Court appeal that had been lodged has been discontinued to better focus on the process of Ministerial Intervention.

🛂 This is where the Minister for Immigration and Home Affairs has the power to allow the family to stay if it is deemed in the public interest.

📑 The documentation for this process is being finalised, and I will soon be presenting the Nguyen’s case to the Federal Government.

It’s a very difficult and worrying time for the family, and there is still a lot of work to do.

👏 A big thank you to all the kind-hearted community members who’ve worked with the legal team to ensure the family receives the best possible advice.

Update: Anam Family petition.

Within 6 days of launching our petition, we have garnered over 13,500 signatures! It’s amazing! However it’s still a difficult legal path for us and we need more signatures to make an impact.

With heartfelt gratitude, my parents, younger brother and I would like to thank all the kind people within and beyond Bathurst who have taken the time and effort to read our story, signed and shared our online petition, written encouraging heartwarming comments that have given us hope in our fearful moments of mental torture. Your generous donations have also helped to spread our petition quickly, gaining the attention of local and national media, included 7News, 2BS Radio Station, National Radio News.

Special grateful thanks to MPs Mr Andrew Gee and Mr Paul Toole for their full support and advocacy in liaising with Federal Ministers on our behalf.
Also grateful thanks to Deputy Mayor Ben Fry, BMEC Manager Jonathan Llewellyn, and many local venues including our Library, Art Gallery, Vinnies, Book Plus and others for their kind support in sharing our petition link and posters.
