Peak surcharge still in effect to try to reduce peak demand on Fridays and encourage visiting Roama on the quieter days.

It was unclear if Square would allow the surcharge given the recent changes made by the RBA which came into effect yesterday. For transparency and clarity, Roama has never charged for credit card transactions. The Square ecosystem charges a flat 1.9% of all transactions for providing all hardware, software and financial services. There are no extras. Some of Roama’s suppliers do charge a credit card fee, but it is usually under $10 in combination and therefore essentially irrelevant to the discussion. The surcharge is solely in place to try to regulate demand and make the service more manageable and to look after the many loyal Roamans who visit regularly.
