CLOSURE OF KITCHEN SERVICE, REDUCED OPENING HOURS
Dear Members
The Leschenault Sporting Association (LSA) will be winding down its kitchen operations as of 26th August 2026 and returning to a club-operated model, where facilities are opened and managed by volunteers for their own club activities and events. This will include ceasing the Wednesday Quiz night and functions after this date.
For the past 10 years, the LSA kitchen has served meals and supported our sporting clubs, major sporting events, community functions, family celebrations, family dinners after games, and countless gatherings that have brought our community together. We are incredibly proud of what has been achieved and grateful for the support we have received along the way.
The last two years have presented significant challenges. Rising labour, food, and beverage costs, combined with reduced revenues, have made it increasingly difficult to operate the kitchen in a financially sustainable manner. Throughout its operation, the LSA has never existed simply as a commercial enterprise. Any surpluses generated were reinvested into the facility, while successful years allowed the LSA to provide additional assistance to our member clubs. Unfortunately, recent trading conditions have resulted in increasing operating losses, and despite our best efforts to balance the needs of our sporting clubs with broader community access, we have not been able to generate the revenue required to support these increasing costs.
Our volunteer committee and small operations team have worked tirelessly to navigate the competing demands of multiple clubs, varied sporting calendars, community expectations, and limited volunteer resources. We have explored opportunities for operational support from the Shire, grant funding, and corporate partnerships, however these efforts have not delivered the ongoing support needed to maintain the current model.
While this decision has not been made lightly, it allows the LSA to focus on its core purpose of supporting local sporting clubs and ensuring the long-term sustainability of our facilities. The facility will remain available member club operations and for the community to hire.
On behalf of the committee, I would like to sincerely thank our volunteers, staff, clubs, members, patrons, and community supporters who have contributed to the success of the kitchen over the past decade. Your support has helped create a vibrant community hub that has served thousands of local residents.
We look forward to continuing to work with our clubs and volunteers as we commence this next chapter for the LSA.
