STATEMENT
Armidale City Bowling Club is aware of the community concern following recent media coverage of the Draft Armidale City Centre Vitality Plan.
The Club was not consulted during the preparation of the Plan, which is disappointing given its long-standing role as a significant community venue in the heart of Armidale. As a result, the Club was surprised to see its site identified as a potential future residential development area.
To be clear, Armidale City Bowling Club has no intention of selling its land, relocating, or ceasing operations. The Club remains firmly committed to serving its more than 7,600 members and the wider Armidale community for many years to come.
The Club has since received clarification that the Draft Plan is strategic and indicative in nature and does not represent a commitment to any specific development outcome. However, given the understandable concern the proposal has generated among members and the broader community, the Club will actively participate in Council's consultation process and formally request that the Plan be amended to accurately reflect the Club's ongoing presence and future.
Armidale City Bowling Club supports sensible, well-planned initiatives that strengthen and revitalise the city centre. At the same time, any long-term vision for Armidale should recognise the Club's enduring contribution as a valued community hub, a local employer, and an important place where people come together.
