A day in the life of an Agroecologist. Well it's been a busy few weeks at Soil Land Food. Warning!⚠️this post contains photos of basic agroecological processes including death and decomposition of animal carcasses.

We have been all over, from running a hands Landscape Rehydration field day with Kiewa Catchment Landcare to a number of compost workshops, helping farmers turn valuable biomass like animal biomass into compost. Better than burying it in a pit!! 🤨 hundreds of thousands of feral animals that could be managed better creating win win solutions.

We helped our friends NutriSoil Biological Solution to run their soil biology blitz and we also delivered day three of the ACT NRM Digging Deeper Soils program. And that's not counting a few online webinars for the reboot your farm program with Sustainable Table Phew I am ready for a break.

We also said goodbye to our amazing French agroecology intern, Carla! Back to France to finish her study. Already missing her in the team!!!

Thanks to Kiewa Catchment Landcare, , mitta2murray, Mollyullah _Tatong Landcare, NutriSoil Biological Solution , Mulloon Institute , Taryn Armstrong and Carla Tijou!

Another day in the life of an Agroecologist. Day 3 of our Digging Deeper soils course with the with ACT Nrm and the farmers and graziers from all over the ACT. Going deep on cation balancing theory in the morning. Then everyone got hands on assessing topsoil depth, soil structure and soil pH. Cold and windy but nice and sunny. Thanks to the host Ross and ACT NRM.

Well its been a while since we ran our flagship 6 month soil program! Nothing like getting busy on soils on a minus 2 degree morning in Canberra! Going deep on soils and soil management with the Digging Deeper Soil Course. Farmers, graziers, horticulture and turf from across the ACT are learning together on how to take a functional systems approach to managing soils. Getting hands on in assessing soils, reading soil tests and making effective soil management decisions. Thanks to ACT NRM.

Winter's a good time to learn something new — and this is one of those courses that actually changes how you think about your inputs.

You'll finish knowing how to brew your own cultures and biofertilisers on-farm. That knowledge doesn't go away when the season gets busy again.

Soils are one of your farm business' most important assets. At the heart of your natural capital, they underpin a modern regenerative farm business. Without a healthy soil it is hard to maintain a productive, profitable and resilient farm enterprise in the long term.

Reboot My Soil fixes that. In six Wednesday evening sessions, David Hardwick from Soil Land Food walks you through the whole process — from understanding what your soil is actually doing, to building a practical action plan you can start using straight away.

If you are in farming, grazing, dairying or horticulture and you want to improve your soil management, then this course is for you!

🌱 Wednesdays 15 July – 19 August 2026 | 7:30pm AEST | Online

Spots are capped at 10 — worth locking it in this week.

Are you interested in how to use soil test more holistically!!

Getting a deeper understanding of your issues. Most soil tests focus on the big numbers. What Reboot My Soil teaches you is how to read the whole story — organic matter, the balance, the constraints that are quietly costing you productivity season after season.

Soil Land Food's online course this July is a small group program — just 10 farm businesses — so David Hardwick can actually work through your soils with you. Not a generic lecture. A real conversation about your place.

🌱Wednesdays 15 July – 19 August 2026
🌱 7:30pm – 9:00pm AEST | Online via Zoom

You'll learn how to:

🪱 learn about how soils work using a 21st century approach

🪱share with like minded farmers and graziers who are making changes

🪱learn the core soil skills of reading soil tests, assessing soils and bench-marking

🪱explore practical soil solutions for your enterprise

🪱develop a soil plan of action for your place

🪱tap into the experience of leading regenerative ag specialists

Sessions are recorded so you won't miss a thing if life gets in the way.
