Cold Brew 🇻🇳
“Wandering the streets of Hoi An in search of brekky (for a very fussy teen, no less), we stumbled across another local café—and I spotted cold brew on the menu. 🧊

Even better, they were serving a Cold Brew with Lemonade. Naturally, I had to give it a go.

Back home at Zoi Espresso, our cold brew is built on single-origin Ethiopian beans—bright, complex, and with that signature clarity you expect from a well-extracted brew.
When I asked about the base here, they mentioned they use arabica beans, which tracks with the smoother, softer profile I tasted.

That said, this drink wasn’t what I expected.
Instead of the crisp, sparkling lift I had in mind, this version leaned much more mellow. There was little to no fizz, which makes me think the “lemonade” component here might be more of a still citrus mix rather than a carbonated one. The result was a very smooth, easy-drinking coffee with a subtle citrus edge—refreshing, but definitely more delicate than bold.

What this experience really highlighted is how adaptable coffee is across cultures. Even something as seemingly straightforward as a cold brew can shift depending on local taste, ingredients, and interpretation. Here, it feels less about punch and more about refreshment—something you can sip slowly while watching the world go by.“ 😌

Coffee Making Class 🇻🇳
“After a couple of weeks sampling coffees across the country, today was about getting behind the bar and learning how to actually make them. 👨‍🍳

We kicked things off with my personal favourite so far—coconut coffee. It turned out to be far simpler than I expected. Creamy, refreshing, and perfect in the heat.

Next up was egg coffee, which I’d been looking forward to recreating. The process itself was the standout—whipping the egg to just the right texture takes patience, and seeing how each component comes together gives you a whole new appreciation for the drink. They even serve it in a specially shaped glass so you can gently swirl and combine the layers as you go.

Then came Vietnamese filter coffee using the traditional Phin filter. This is a staple here—strong, slow-dripped, and often paired with condensed milk. We used a 50/50 arabica and robusta blend, but it was interesting to learn how easily you can adjust that ratio depending on your taste. More robusta for intensity and caffeine kick, more arabica for smoothness and complexity. I added both liquid sugar and condensed milk, and it was far smoother than I expected—definitely shifted my perspective on filter coffee, which isn’t usually my go-to.

Last on the list was salted coffee. Learning to make it showed me just how layered it actually is—there’s more going on behind that creamy, slightly savoury top than you’d think. It’s one of those drinks that sounds unusual but just works.

All in all, it was a standout experience. Not just learning how to make these iconic Vietnamese coffees, but gaining a deeper appreciation for the craft, the culture, and the detail behind every cup. Definitely something I’m excited to bring back to Australia—both in practice and inspiration.” ☺️

Salted Coffee 🇻🇳

“We rolled into An Bang Beach after an overnight train from Nha Trang—and I’ve got to say, I highly recommend the journey. It’s a great way to travel up the coast… just be prepared, the beds are hard as rocks 😅

Sitting down for brekky by the beach, I spotted something new on the menu: salted coffee. Naturally, I had to give it a go. 👀

It’s a mix of ice, condensed milk, and strong Vietnamese coffee, topped with a layer of lightly salted cream. Sounds a bit unusual, but it actually works really well.

The flavour is sweet and bold, with just enough salt to give it a really nice finish on the palate. Once you mix the cream through, it softens everything slightly and brings it all together into a smooth, balanced drink.

Definitely one of those ‘try it at least once’ coffees—and honestly, I’d happily have it again.” 😋

Coconut coffee 🇻🇳
“After I first tried it in Hoi Chi Min City I wanted to see if there was much difference in the cities we are visiting.

There’s something about the heat and coastal energy of Nha Trang. ☀️
Served ice-cold and layered to perfection, this coconut coffee is a beautiful balance of bold Vietnamese coffee and creamy coconut. The first sip hits with that rich, slightly bitter depth you expect from Vietnamese beans, quickly followed by a smooth, naturally sweet coconut finish. It’s refreshing, indulgent, and surprisingly light all at once. 😌

The texture is what really makes it stand out—almost like a coffee dessert. Think somewhere between a smoothie and a classic iced coffee, with a velvety, whipped consistency that melts as you drink it. Perfect for the tropical climate here. 🧊

I much preferred this to the one I had in Hoi Chi Min City as it was stronger in the flavour of the coffee.
If you find yourself in Nha Trang, this is one coffee you don’t skip.” 👌

The Coffee Section 🇻🇳

“Arrived in Nha Trang and, as always, curiosity led the way. Spotting a local supermarket, we decided to wander in, and what I stumbled across was something I didn’t expect at all — an entire section devoted purely to coffee 🤤

Shelves stretched with an incredible range: from convenient drip bag coffees and ready-to-drink options, to instant blends and beautifully packaged whole beans. You can even choose your beans and have them freshly ground on the spot to take home. It’s a coffee lover’s playground! 😍

What really stood out was the diversity. There were bold Robusta beans, smoother Arabica varieties, and even Moka options—each available in a spectrum of strengths and specialty profiles. It’s a reminder that coffee culture in Vietnam runs deep, extending far beyond the cafés and into everyday life.

If this is what a regular supermarket offers, it makes you wonder just how much more there is to discover.” 🤔
