Name a better pair

There are some decisions at dinner that require careful consideration.

This isn't really one of them.

A beautifully cooked steak and a Great Southern red just belong together.

Our wine list is entirely Great Southern sourced, which means whether you're leaning towards something from Denmark, Mt Barker, Frankland, Porongurup or elsewhere in the region, your glass hasn't had to travel very far to meet what's on your plate.

And when the steak itself is sourced from Stirling Ranges Beef?

Well, that's a pretty convincing argument for keeping dinner local. 🍷🥩

IRONWOOD Estate Wines

For this dinner, the wine isn’t being chosen after the menu. It’s part of creating it.

Ironwood Estate sits amongst the ancient Porongurup landscape, producing cool-climate wines just up the road from us here in the Great Southern.

For our dinner on 30 October, Sam from Ironwood and Les from Rustlers are bringing both sides of the table together.

Instead of simply creating five courses and finding wines to match afterwards, the food and wine are being considered together. How the acidity in a wine can lift a richer element on the plate. How fruit, spice or oak can pick up flavours in a dish. And sometimes, how one small change can make both taste completely different.

You don't need to know any of that to enjoy it, of course. That's their job.

Yours is to sit down, eat, drink and discover what happens when the right plate meets the right glass.

On Friday 30 October, we’re setting Rustlers a little differently.

Just 54 guests will join us for an intimate Great Southern food and wine dinner created with our friends at Ironwood Estate.

Les and Sam have been working together on a five-course menu with matched Ironwood wines, bringing together Great Southern produce, Porongurup wine and plenty of conversation about what’s on the plate and in the glass along the way.

This isn’t our usual Friday night service. It’s one dinner, one menu and one room of people sitting down to enjoy the whole thing together.

We’re looking for part-time waitstaff to join the Rustlers crew. You’ll work around 3–5 nights a week, plus some daytime shifts, with evening and weekend availability important. We’re looking for someone 18+, or 17 and interested in undertaking a hospitality traineeship. Experience isn’t everything. If you’ve got the right attitude, we’ll train you. There’s a lot that goes into a great night at Rustlers before a steak ever reaches the table.

It’s noticing when someone needs another drink. Remembering the extra sauce. Checking on a table without hovering. Helping your teammate when they’re suddenly three things behind. Keeping your head when the restaurant is full and making the people sitting in front of you feel like they’re being looked after.

That’s the kind of hospitality we care about, and we’re looking for someone new to join our team.

We have a part-time waitstaff position available for someone aged 18+, working approximately three to five nights per week with some daytime shifts. Evening and weekend availability is important.

We’d also love to hear from a 17-year-old who’s genuinely interested in hospitality and would like to undertake a traineeship with us.

You don’t need years of hospitality experience, and you certainly don’t need to walk through the door knowing everything. We will train you. What matters more to us is finding the right person. Someone who is friendly, reliable, willing to learn, takes responsibility for their work and understands that when things get busy, we look after our guests and each other.

You’ll be joining an established Albany restaurant with an experienced team around you and plenty of opportunity to learn. We’re not looking for someone who already knows everything. We’re looking for someone who wants to learn.

Well… this is pretty bloody exciting 🥂

We’re incredibly proud of both of these nominations.

Rustlers has been part of the Albany community for a long time, and while we obviously love serving up a great steak and looking after people around our tables, being recognised for the part we play in our wider community means just as much to us.

A massive thank you to our team, our suppliers, our local community and every person who has walked through our doors, ordered a takeaway, celebrated something special with us or simply popped in for dinner over the years.

Now we wait until October to find out how we go… but for today, we’re pretty chuffed just to be on that finalist list ❤️

Businesses and residents affected by the gas transition have been urged by the City of Albany and business advocates to not yet take any action, who say further information and timelines are on the horizon.

Although the date is months away, town gas users have been urged to hold fire and not complete any transition works until the switch-off commences, which will operate via a zone-by-zone three-year phase-out, as early action may result in ineligibility for compensation.

A fact file has been provided by the City of Albany in hopes to ease anxiety of affected users and offer insight into what they need to know now.
