🐋 Whale season has arrived... and you might not even need a boat to enjoy it! 🌊

While Agnes Water & 1770 isn't known as a dedicated whale watching destination like Hervey Bay, we're often lucky enough to receive a very special preview! 💙

Each year, humpback whales migrate an incredible 5,000–6,000 km from the icy waters of Antarctica to the warm tropical waters of Queensland to breed and give birth. As they begin their journey back south between July and November, many mothers and their calves are spotted passing the Discovery Coast—sometimes stopping offshore to play and rest before continuing on to Hervey Bay.

If you're visiting us this winter, don't forget to pack your binoculars! 👀

📍 The 1770 Headland Lookout is one of the best places to keep watch, and on calm days you may even spot whales in the distance from Agnes Water Main Beach.

Hervey Bay is famous around the world because humpback whales don't simply swim past—they often pause in its calm, sheltered waters, protected by K'gari, where mothers and calves can rest, socialise and prepare for the long journey back to Antarctica.
