the good news? we are open on the public holiday!
shorter hours but we will be here for your coffee needs ☕

the bad news? we will be closed on tuesday's moving forward
this will be a bit of a trial so might not be forever, but it will give us some much needed rest each week

the best news? we have amazing pastries by Clara Cakes for the weekend, and a revised menu launching soon

Hello everybody,

Shelter from the Rain will be closed until Thursday (4th June) while we take a little break to rest and reset ourselves,
This is a hard decision, but life has been more than a little chaotic recently, and we need to take some time to recharge.

as many of you know, we are a business of just two people who also share a life together outside of the cafe. while we love the space and community we've created, we also need to do what's best for us. and that means a few changes to the cafe:

☔ we will be CLOSED this coming thursday 21st so we can move house (yes, that same move we started at Easter is still happening but should be finished soon)

☔ our wonderful chef Ailsa has been offered a job elsewhere, which is super exciting but also leaves us a little short staffed. as an immediate solution, we will only be offering sweets over the weekend until we settle on a simple menu that's quick and tasty (note: Ailsa will still be part of the cafe just here a little less while they win the bread for our family)

☔ you may see some new sweets as we explore different vendors, if you have any suggestions hit us up 🤙

☔ we will likely be updating our opening hours soon and closing an additional day during the week (either tuesday or thursday) so keep an eye out for that change

☔ unfortunately we aren't looking to hire at this time. to be completely honest, wages are expensive and we want to be confident in our ability to pay staff correctly before we bring anyone else on. this industry is notorious for underpaying (or just not paying wages at all) so for now it will just be us and the occassional family member being paid in coffee

after many mornings struggling to arrive on time (and mostly being late...) we are finally pushing back our weekday opening time to 7am ☕

will we be anymore awake? who knows

will we be ready when the doors open? let's hope so ✌️

EASTER OPENING HOURS 🐣

we will be open over the long weekend with a treat for you all; our amazing friends at will be taking over and hosting free coffee tastings!

we are incredibly grateful to both Kat and Kate for stepping in while we take a small break (although you might still see us stop in for coffee made by the best...)

our opening hours will be a little different over the weekend and we'll be changing to new winter hours when we come back (post to follow)

we hope everyone had a safe and joyous start to the year, and congrats to those who stayed up until midnight (not us we were in bed by 10pm)

as we get ready to reopen on saturday, there's a few updates to share:

☕ there will be small price increases to reflect our rising costs from all suppliers. while inevitable, we are doing our best to minimise what we pass on because we know everyone is doing it tough. we will also implement discounts for reusable cups to help negate the rise

☕ we are finalising a new food menu, which should be good to go later next week once we are back in swing with supplier deliveries. you may have noticed we changed things up last month with new offerings, some of which will stay along with a few old favourites

☕ this isn't really an update just a note to say we are excited to get back into it and miss you all ❤️
