Parwana Afghan Kitchen

Parwana Afghan Kitchen Parwana Afghan Kitchen is a small family run restaurant, sharing the rustic flavours of Afghanistan.

Parwana owners Zelmai and Farida Ayubi migrated from Afghanistan with their young family in 1987 at the height of the Cold War. When Parwana opened its doors in 2009, the vision was to share with Adelaide an authentic piece of the Afghanistan the family had left behind – a country rich in culture, spirit and history. Chef, Farida, and son-in-law, Sayed, infuse into their cooking the influences of

the Afghanistan which they knew. Memories of gregariousness, generosity and endless hospitality are blended into the food prepared at Parwana. As a small child, Farida would watch on as her family’s chef prepared heaped platters of long grain rices, decorated with jewel-like toppings. She learnt how to intricately fold assortments of traditional dumplings, and to season sauces to perfection. She absorbed the secrets to the unique blend of spices used to delicately flavour the meat dishes. At Parwana we believe that even loss and suffering can forge beauty and generosity. It is in this spirit that diners at Parwana are welcomed like guests into a home, and treated to the culinary pleasures of age-old secrets of genuine Afghan cooking, hinting at the glory of the country the family once knew. Open every evening, but Monday, and lunchtime weekends by booking only.

A special Nawruz (New Year) celebration at Parwana Monday 21 March - book tickets via parwana.com.au 🌷💖

08/03/2022

Nawruz (New Day) is celebrated on the Spring Equinox and marks the first day of Afghanistan's New Year. The beginning of a new year brings with it hope of fresh possibility and a spirit of solidarity and optimism.

We recognise that right now nothing in our world is more important than the spirit of Nawruz. When we see the senseless conflicts around the world, the loss of sacred life and the plight of refugees.

Join us as we share in the Nawruz spirit of gratitude and harmony.

A special Nawruz table is prepared for this event including starters, mains and dessert. Wine is BYO at no additional charge. The night includes live music, poetry and Durkhanai Ayubi sharing the significance of Nawruz.

All profits raised will go to our partner agencies, Mahboba's Promise and Aseel, on the ground in Afghanistan helping vulnerable people in an ongoing humanitarian crisis and supporting the rebuilding of communities.

Our Nawruz dinner will be held at Parwana Afghan Kitchen on Monday 21 March at 6.30pm. Book now at https://www.parwana.com.au/nawruz

As we participate in the beauty and rich history of Afghan cuisine at Parwana, we do so while standing alongside the millions of ordinary people in Afghanistan who are suffering since the collapse of Afghanistan in August 2021. Many Afghans are facing severe hardship, and we would like to do our best to provide a way for our community in Adelaide to continue to support them.

Parwana is glad to have joined with Aseel, an on the ground Afghan-based and Afghan-run initiative, to create a campaign providing food and other emergency needs to the internally displaced in underserved areas of Afghanistan.

In the spirit of ensuring that the joy of Afghan cuisine can also go some way towards standing alongside those in Afghanistan bearing the brunt of a crisis, please consider supporting if you can.

Dear Diners - as 2021 draws to a close, we are taking a small break at both of our locations.

We’d like to thank you, our community, for your patronage, care and support throughout this past year.

We continue to keep Afghanistan and those who remain within front of our hearts and minds, and in the new year we will have ways for those of our diners who wish to do so, to support Afghan people.

In the mean time, from us to you - we hope you each have a restorative and festive break with your loved ones, and we look forward to sharing in the beauty and story of Afghanistan and it’s cuisine together again in the new year 🌹🌷💖

It was a joy to be part of ’s In Other Words event. A beautiful lunch by Parwana on the footbridge over looking the river, discussing Afghanistan, cuisine and the power of narratives.

A huge thanks to the lovely for hosting.

On the 5th and 6th of September 2021, Parwana hosted fundraising dinners to galvanise support for those remaining in Afghanistan, in response to the unfolding humanitarian crisis as the country's established government collapsed.

With the incredible support and care of our community we raised $180,000 to provide some emergency care and relief to those within Afghanistan now facing a drastically unsettled and uncertain future. The money has been donated to three Australian registered charities who provide support on the ground in Afghanistan, namely Mahboba's Promise, Afghan-Australian Development Organisation and Human Appeal.

Here we share some moments from our evenings together, as well as content showing how the money raised has already provided support to those in Afghanistan.
