Tonight's pizza was from "Vesuvio Pizza Bar"
4/503 Lower North East Road, Adelaide, SA, Australia 5070
Established in 1967 this place has all the charm you want to see.
You are greeted as you walk in by the large historic wood oven with the logs ready to be placed in and you can smell the aroma filling the dining area which is quite large and big enough for a largish family gathering or a good sized group of friends. I can definitely see myself organising something here and they have a liquor licence as well so you could easily have a great night out.
This is a real gem I can't imagine too many places like this existing in Adelaide and for any food enthusiast especially lovers of pizza this place is a must visit.
Once I got to my car open opened the lid, my son looks at me with wide eyes ooh this one's different he says, I explained how it was cooked and we dove in. He's not really that into pizza but he loved it.
My first couple of slices were amazing and I was thinking high 8's but as I got deeper in the middle it kept getting better.
The crunch took me to new heights it was almost cracker biscuit crunchy and the base and crust had nice hints of the smokiness from the wood fire in it. The sauce was nice and blended in well, it didn't jump out at you with any tang or sweetness which I can enjoy if done right but this one was suited the pizza perfectly.
My favourite part of this pizza is the after taste while you're eating it you get hints of smokiness but once you finish and sit back you are left with an amazing smooth smokey flavour that you just want to savour.
Ladies and gentlemen this pizza is an instant hall of famer with a massive 9.1 our first visit into the 9's.
8's are worth travelling time but 9's it doesn't matter what part of Adelaide you are from this is an icon. You make time to get to a place like this, 1967 and I'm certain this oven is original.
Let's give it some extra use and get around these guys.
