Tomorrow is Black Friday, the symbolic start of the holiday shopping season and the official launch of our campaign to slow down fast fashion and excessive consumption.
Black Friday is not a term of endearment. It was coined to describe the day when so many people went out to shop that it caused traffic accidents and sometimes even violence. Today it has come to symbolise excess shopping and wastefulness. Black Friday is a truly terrible day for the environment.
Fashion is among the most sold products on Black Friday.
The volume of clothes produced is depleting resources such as water and land, challenging Earth’s capacity to absorb greenhouse gases, toxic chemical and clothes waste.
Today’s trends are tomorrow’s trash because recycling is a myth. Cheap clothing is poor quality, with low resale value, and there’s just too much of it. 85% of all textiles are sent to landfill.
Fashion brands must take the greater share of responsibility and we, as consumers, have a powerful voice. This year on Black Friday, let’s buy nothing!
Join the campaign to redesign fashion.
Let’s fashion a better world.
