AHTA Engages Taxi Drivers Association to Strengthen Transportation Services and Enhance Visitor Experience
The Anguilla Hotel and Tourism Association (AHTA) convened a meeting with members of the Taxi Drivers Association on Monday, September 28, providing a dedicated platform for taxi operators to share concerns, identify challenges, and discuss opportunities for collaboration to further strengthen transportation services in Anguilla.
The meeting formed part of the AHTA’s ongoing commitment to engaging its membership and working collaboratively with industry partners to address matters that impact the tourism sector and the overall visitor experience.
During the meeting, taxi operators were invited to openly discuss the challenges they are currently experiencing, including areas where additional support, guidance, training, and improved procedures could contribute to more effective service delivery. Discussions also focused on opportunities for the AHTA to support the Taxi Drivers Association in strengthening its operations and enhancing the professional standards of the taxi sector.
As an important component of Anguilla’s tourism product, taxi operators play a significant role in shaping the visitor experience. For many visitors, their first interaction with the destination may be through a taxi driver, whether travelling from the airport or ferry terminal, visiting a hotel or villa, or exploring the island. Ensuring that transportation services are professional, reliable, welcoming, and aligned with the expectations of visitors is therefore an important part of maintaining the quality of Anguilla’s tourism offering.
The AHTA will work with the Taxi Drivers Association in areas such as service standards, customer service, professional development and training, operational procedures, communication, and other initiatives aimed at strengthening the association and improving the delivery of taxi services.
As members of the AHTA, the Taxi Drivers Association will have the opportunity to benefit from the Association’s industry knowledge, resources, professional networks, and advocacy platform. The AHTA will also seek to facilitate greater collaboration between taxi operators and other tourism stakeholders, creating opportunities to share best practices and develop solutions that are practical and beneficial to both service providers and visitors.
AHTA CEO, Cherecia Lewis, noted that strengthening transportation services requires continued collaboration among tourism stakeholders.
“Our taxi operators are an important part of the tourism experience, and we want to ensure that they have the support and resources necessary to deliver the level of service that our visitors expect. This meeting provided an opportunity for us to listen directly to their concerns and to identify practical areas where the AHTA can add value. Our intention is to work alongside the Taxi Drivers Association to build capacity, strengthen professional standards, and create a more coordinated and effective transportation experience for visitors.”
The AHTA and the Taxi Drivers Association will continue to engage on an ongoing basis, with follow-up discussions and initiatives to address identified concerns and offer support where it is needed.
The AHTA believes that a stronger and more professionally supported taxi sector will contribute to a stronger tourism product and a more seamless experience for visitors travelling throughout Anguilla.
