The Common Room South African Fusion Restaurant and Cafe + Concept Store It’s no secret that coffee and a good bite to eat act as catalysts that bring people together.

The Common Room was born out of the dream to bring South African ‘food and coffee culture’ to my homeland. I dreamt of designing a space for coffee connoisseurs, casual coffee drinkers and everyone in between, to experience what I experienced in the paradise called South Africa. Contemporary culture is at the core of our approach, with an undeniable love for everything nature and community spirit.

You’ll see the wooden elements and greenery inside reflect our personality. The Muse Café is/has been nothing short of amazing, but I knew I had to conjure up new ways to materialize more of my dreams. There’s more to be said and done. A lot more. When I think of The Common Room, I think of the food, craft, and entertainment at lively Saturday markets, I think of engaging all my senses while sipping on coffee in a perfectly cozy café in Cape Town, I think of the exhilarating effect of mountain air paired with picturesque views that Table Mountain has to offer, and the adventure. Oh, the adventures in Africa are unparalleled. I also think of how well these feelings fuse with my love for the mountains here, at home. The mysteries that unfold every time I explore the Hajar mountains, the excitement it brings me.
“Happiness is only real when shared,” said Christopher McCandless. I want to share my happiness with anyone who stumbles upon The Common Room looking for a caffeine fix or some wholesome food. This story is about a cafe that provides a space to chill, work, share thoughts and ideas with contemporaries, and even shop from our range of products made by artisans.
