The Magazine Shop is a first for Dubai – a café specialising in high quality coffee, and high quality independent magazines. We source only the most thought-provoking, inspiring, unique, and beautifully designed magazines from around the world, curating a selection of magazines on the subjects of art, design, travel, fashion, architecture, music, film, and special interests. As a member of Brownbook Magazine’s family, and a Cultural Engineering project, we are committed to promoting creative independent publishing in the Middle East. The programming at The Magazine Shop will put the space to use as a stimulating backdrop for cultural conversation. Reinforcing its role as a hub for independent publishing, events will include talks from regional publishers and writers, poetry slams, conversation club, a monthly magazine discussion club, quiz nights, and competitions in conjunction with magazines, offering writers and artists the chance to get published. Located in Gate Village 8 at DIFC, The Magazine Shop sits ideally among numerous art galleries and shops. Through an innovative annual programming, it will bring a new type of space to a city with a thirst for creativity. It will build a diverse customer base, with whom we can enter into a dialogue on the environment for and future of independent magazine publishing. All the coffee at The Magazine Shop is from Raw Coffee, an ethical company that imports superior coffee beans from fairly treated farmers. With the support of Raw Coffee, our baristas undergo intensive training, so that we can be confident customers will love the beverage they receive. With sandwiches, pastries, and snacks also available, customers will be encouraged to spend a leisurely hour or two at The Independent Magazine Café, getting lost in a lovingly made magazine.
