Joe and Sons cafe have come together with a mix of Dubai's most promising independent bands last Friday, 9 March 2018.

Performances from The Losing Party, WYWY, Flowershop, Florinekilledthebassplayer, Deep Sleep, and Cotton Candy headlined the Community Music fest. Stay tuned for the next MONO fest news!

M O N O -- 2am onwards, tomorrow 9th of March features Florinekilledthebassplayer

Florine killed the bass player is an indie band based in Dubai UAE. It features Joshua Medford on vocals, Elliot meighan on bass, James foster on drums and lyam dara salehi on lead guitar. The band had been together for over a year now, and will unfourtunatley be playing their last ever gig this concert series. The principles and stories left behind but the group still live on, and more can be expected from each member individually in the future.

M O N O — 9 March 2018, Friday, 2pm onwards features WYWY, an Etheral Wave / Dream pop duo that have faded in and out of the Dubai scene for the past few years. Mckie Alvarez (guitar and synth) and X Alvarez (vocals, synth and xylophone) have been playing music together for several years now, through relocation, child birth and the strains of white collar employment. They've made a comeback recently, with a new EP and upcoming single. Their lives shows are few and rather far between, but always sonically impactful, often cathartic, and at times soft and sweet.

A group with such brilliant music on the level humble members which we couldn’t reaist to add to the setlist and perform.

Cotton Candy is guitarist Victor Crasson, Bass player Victor Michee, Singer Liam Dawson and Drummer Cyril Stephen.

The story goes that one cold murky winter night, the deathly silence of a small Dubai compound was disturbed by a loud crash. “That sounds like it came from the tree house!” Turns out they were right, the tree house ladder was found in pieces at the foot of the tree, and glancing up the curious children witnessed something that would be forever engrained in their minds. Half turtle half sandwich, with a swift single motion intense punishing riffs and deafening percussion filled the air. They were found twitching on the ground the next morning, murmuring and air drumming. Paralyzed with fear, the parents barred up the tree house and bought video games for the kids to get over the ordeal and never bring it up again. The myth goes that the Losing Party is thought to have been spawned by the meeting of 2 of the kids from that night. Night in they recite the sounds that play in their heads from what they heard that day. The rest of the kids are still at large.
