"As I draw back the curtains I am greeted by a beautiful sunny morning again. Life is good and so is the weather, fingers crossed it will remain that way. It was cold overnight in resort, the pisteurs have worked their magic once more and the slopes are in perfect condition. The forecast is wonderful for the weekend with more snow possible on Monday.
Preparations for next weekends FIS Alpine Ski World Cup Finals continue apace with buildings popping up all over the place. The scale of the event becomes more obvious daily and for those of you interested in the 'behind the scenes' activities I've put a couple of links at the bottom of the blog you may find interesting. One is to the 'World Cup Organising Manual' and the other to the 'International Ski Competition Rules'. If you haven't the time or inclination to read hundreds of pages don't worry as I'll be pulling out some facts and figures for you over the next few days.
The efforts to bolster the bear population in the Pyrenees continues. The release of a young male bear in May has been announced with the aim of solving the problems of inbreeding and ensure the genetic diversity of the population. The exact location of the release hasn't been announced and is subject to a technical review of the many sites being offered by interested parties. The new male should take over from Pyros, introduced in 1997, who has already reached a very advanced age. Pyros is the ancestor of most of the bears born in the Pyrenees from the initial reintroduction.
Run of the day - Oz, a bear. "
