Can you believe it has been 21 days since Woolshed was forced to close its doors and lay off ALL staff? Development Victoria has refused to engage with us or provide any real support for those affected. We’re heading into the busiest time of the year and we’re all out of a job. Why won’t you provide us with the engineering reports or explain the impact of your rectification works on Central Pier since 2013? It was your job to maintain the site!

CENTRAL PIER UPDATE 25.09.19

Yesterday we received notification from Development Victoria that Central Pier will remain closed until at least January 6, 2020.

We are bitterly disappointed by this news and remain frustrated by the lack of support and transparency displayed by Development Victoria throughout this process.

The only information Development Victoria has provided us is to advise that an engineer’s report will be available with further assessment of the pier’s stability in mid-October.

The safety of the 1,300 staff who work on Central Pier remains our number one priority.

We know that our staff and clients will be devastated by the news that one of Melbourne’s most iconic waterfront destinations and event hubs will now be unavailable for the busy Spring/Summer period. Central Pier plays a vital role in the Docklands community and many locals have been overwhelmingly vocal about their disappointment in the temporary loss of this precinct.

We thank everyone for their understanding and patience. If you have concerns or questions please reach out via [email protected] or 03 9230 7103

CENTRAL PIER UPDATE 23.09.19

To our valued customers, staff and friends, we are still seeking answers from Development Victoria as to when the 1300 employees who work on Central Pier will be able to return to work and cater for all of our future bookings in the coming months.⁣

Sadly, we have already relocated hundreds of functions to other venues and are continuing to work with current clients to facilitate alternatives for those that are likely to be impacted by the temporary pier closure.

Although we are frustrated by the progress to date and the lack of support we have received from Development Victoria, we will continue to seek clarity and certainty on when we will be able to return - whilst doing everything we can to support our employees and our wonderful clients.

The tenants on Central Pier have invested tens of millions of dollars to create this iconic destination, that has become a Melbourne institution, and Development Victoria have reassured Woolshed that no decision has been made on the future of the pier other than an intention to get us back on as quickly as possible.

We are grateful for the overwhelming support showcased by the many suppliers, venues and friends who have reached out to lend a helping hand.

We look forward to providing further updates, however we encourage anyone who has any concerns or queries to email [email protected]

CENTRAL PIER TEMPORARILY CLOSED
In what is devastating news for Melbourne and the hospitality industry, Central Pier was suddenly closed yesterday by the government agency Development Victoria, without warning, due to being ‘unsafe.’

It was a situation totally unexpected by The Woolshed. We have been just as surprised and shocked as you.
We are working with Atlantic Group and in turn our landlord Development Victoria to obtain some further clarity on the situation in terms of rectification plans for the Pier and likely time frame.

At this stage, we have been advised Central Pier could be closed for up to a month and we are working diligently with our clients to do whatever we can to assist them in this difficult time with the relocation of their events for the month of September.

The Woolshed employs 12 full time and 52 casual staff and indirectly this also affects our key food, beverage and event suppliers coming into one of the busiest times of the year.

From all at The Woolshed, we appreciate your understanding and are here to help in any way we can.
We look forward to welcoming you back to the Woolshed soon!
