Water Lane Coffee is a design-lead coffee bar, with an imported Italian Terrazzo nestled in by Twickenham's Riverside.

Coffees featured are from some of Europe's leading coffee roasters including Nomad, Five Elephant & Square Mile.

This Sunday we’re saying goodbye to Saskia 😭

An actual ‘Super-Barista’ who can knock out cup after cup of velvety coffee (with machine-like consistency), while the queue stretches out the door 😅

She will be slinging flat whites, for one final day tomorrow, so come through and give ya’ girl her high fives.

For our next guest coffee we have selected some spectacular coffees from coffee out of Edinburgh… A Geisha out of Mexico and a natural out of China.

Yiwu, China (Natural) 🇨🇳

Yiwu, China is actually one of the most exciting single origin espressos we have ever tasted and because of that we will be featuring it on the bar for you to try. With its big syrupy mouth feel and notes of lime and tropical fruit, as a flat white it tastes something akin to a tropical fruit panna cotta.

Chelín Giesha, Mexico (Rehydrated Washed) 🇲🇽

Chelín, is a rehydrated washed Geisha from Enrique Lopėz in Mexico. Cherries are picked very ripe and after floaters are removed, clean cherries rest in concrete tanks until the next day. Cherries are then placed out to dry until they start to become raisin-like (roughly 20 hours of direct sun).

Cherries then undergo an overnight soaking in water, before de-pulping and processing with a normal washed method.

This lot is an incredibly refined Geisha varietal, tasting full of passion fruits, jasmine florals and cream.

So this was supposed to be a post with me telling you all, that we’ve got two really special Kenyan coffees in from our Barcelona friends .

Instead, it’s a post telling you that these are the last two bags left!

After I posted them on stories last week, there was a bit of a rush and well… these two bags are all that is left.

Below is what the post would have said 🤷‍♂️ 👇

We’ve selected two coffees from the same lot out of Kenya’s Faith Estate. Both washed, one batch has been roasted a little darker and more developed for espresso and the other lighter for filter.

This is a really interesting chance to see how the roasting process can highlight different flavours from the same coffee.

As an espresso we have honey, milk chocolate and mango 🍯 🍫 🥭

As a filter coffee we have floral notes, mango and pineapple. 🌺🥭🍍

This is a custom font for the window of the Twickenham shop. Designed by it was an attention grabbing mix of playful and avant-garde, designed to let people know that we are all about coffee.

This was the original colour palette for Water Lane. We decided the pink was a bit too playful, so instead opted for an off-white instead.

We’ve had another drop of guest coffees from out of Barcelona. This time we’ve selected five different coffees from them including two Peruvian coffees from the same farm but one batch roasted for espresso and the other for for filter. As always we have a limited stock.

Monobamba - Peru (Espresso)
This is a mix of coffee varietals coming out of Monobamba in Peru. This is a sweet and citrusy coffee with big bold flavours of apricot and caramel. This coffee has been roasted for espresso but we would only recomend drinking this black, as it will lose much of its magic when diluted with milk.

Monobamba - Peru (Filter)
Same as the above but roasted for filter. This is a mix of coffee varietals coming out of Monobamba in Peru. This is a sweet and citrusy coffee with big bold flavours of apricot and caramel.

Myanmar - The Lady (Filter)
A really special red honey processed, Red Catucai, coming. It’s a limited-edition lot produced exclusively by women and comes through with accents of lemongrass and peaches.

Rwanda - Ireme (Filter)
An anaerobioc Red Bourbon with good acidity coming through with water melon, apricot and cherries.

Rwanda - Gitwe (Filter)
This is a washed Red Bourbon and as you would expect with a washed coffee, its clean, crisp and juicy. Tasting notes are coming through with dried fruit, honey, orange and goji.

MASTER OF INTERIOR ARCHITECTURE ⁠

Allow us to introduce Michelle. ⁠

Since we’ve opened it’s fair to say that our interior has been discussed with enthusiasm as much as our coffee, and it’s all thanks to Michelle that we achieved what we did with Water Lane.⁠

I first met Michelle back at the start of the 2020 lockdown. She had just moved from New Zealand as a Masters of Interior Architecture graduate.⁠
⁠
We endlessly chatted about design, interiors and architecture and pretty quickly it became apparent we were on the same wave, so when the Water Lane project came along, it was a natural choice to handover design reigns to her.⁠
⁠
Spending hours with me looking at samples of terrazzo, different shades of white, experimenting with wood stains and changing the counter layout multiple times (sorry Michelle 😅) she was on point with every decision, even gently guiding me back from some overly elaborate ideas.⁠

From shade of white on the walls, the pink grout on our white tiles, the terrazzo counter, the spacing of the Ash wood cladding on the counter - even down to the powder blue tiles in our toilet - Michelle’s signature is written in Water Lane’s DNA.⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠

Finca Santa Teresa is a Mexican micro-lot out of Chiapas Mexico. ⁠
⁠
It’s a natural processed Bourbon, it’s a big, super-robust with tasting notes of honeysuckle, grapes and cacao.⁠
