It's hard to put this weekend into words.
The New Jersey State Barbecue Competition wasn't just about turning in four boxes of barbecue. It was about teamwork, long hours, little sleep, problem-solving, memories, and realizing just how many incredible people we have in our corner.

Before we talk about the results, we want to thank everyone who helped make this weekend possible. And the people who show up for us when it matters most

❤️ Fabrizio – Thank you for coming to hang out with us and bringing much-needed ice.
❤️ Ashley & Jerry – Thank you for battling traffic to bring us the things we forgot. You truly saved the day.
❤️ Papa Jim – Thank you for spending two days with us, running errands, and making sure we had everything we needed.
❤️ K**e, Bobby D, Beth, and Hopp – Thank you for all the encouragement and well wishes.
❤️ Arlene – Thank you for stopping by to visit us.
❤️ Aunt Donna – Thank you for checking in throughout the weekend.
❤️ My mom – Thank you for taking care of our dogs so we could focus on the competition.

This weekend was about so much more than barbecue.

We watched a firework show on the seawall, survived rough camping, and somehow the storms passed right around us. We spent time at the beach, collecting seashells, catching hermit crabs, and even spotted dolphins.

One of our favorite parts of the weekend was watching Ronnie experience it all. At just 9 years old, she loves being part of GQ Barbecue & Catering. She has so many favorite parts! Competing, going to the beach and hunting for squishies (of course) Seeing her excitement reminds us why we do this and why it's important to include the next generation in what we love.

We're also incredibly proud of Tripp, our 17-year-old Assistant Pitmaster. He stayed up late, woke up early, worked hard all weekend, and never hesitated to jump in wherever he was needed. His dedication, work ethic, and willingness to learn make him a huge part of our team, and we couldn't be prouder of him.

Out of 61 talented teams, GQ Barbecue & Catering finished:
🏆 37th Overall
🍗 Chicken – 32nd
🍖 Ribs – 35th
🐖 Pork – 28th
🥩 Brisket – 44th

Would we have loved to hear our name called a little more? Of course. But we're proud of what we accomplished. Every competition teaches us something new, and every cook helps us grow. We'll study our score sheets, keep practicing, and come back even stronger.

To everyone who follows our journey, supports our business, hires us for events, shares our posts, sends messages, or simply believes in us—thank you. We truly couldn't do this without you.

This weekend reminded us that barbecue isn't just about great food. It's about family, friendships, teamwork, and making memories that last long after the smoke clears.
We're already looking forward to the next competition.

Day 2... and the smoke keeps rolling! 💨

The brisket is finally getting the rest it deserves after an overnight cook. 🥩

The creamy Cooper Sharp Mac & Cheese is soaking up that perfect kiss of smoke. 🧀🔥

And the beef dino ribs? They're on the smoker, taking their sweet time until they're fall-apart tender. 🦖🍖

The heat may be relentless, but that's just part of barbecue. Every hour, every degree, and every log on the fire is worth it when you get to share great food with great people.

Today's real feel forecast: ☀️ 115° at the smoker... about 187° where I'm standing. 🔥😂

If you drive by today and thought someone was melting into the smoker... don't worry, that's just us making your Fourth of July barbecue.

We're running on smoke, sweet tea, and questionable life choices. 🤣 But nothing beats seeing friends and families gathered around great food on Independence Day.

While everyone else is trying to stay cool, we're over here getting brisket bark just as crispy as our sunburns.
