I couldn't not let the spotlight be on these mamas. I mean come on, how stinking cute are they with their babies.
Hazel is a blue copper maran hen and lays beautiful deep brown eggs. She is the "bitiest" of this motley crew and I have a nice scar on my hand from her not wanting me to take her extra eggs!

Darlin' and Darla are barn yard mixes and clearly very fond of each other 🤣
Darlin' lays green shelled eggs and Darla brown.
They are far less aggressive but I'm still scared for my fingers!
Between the 3 of them they have about 8 peeps and are being the best girls! Today they took their peeps out to explore the yard for the first time.

🌼Chicken of the Month🌼

August's chicken of the Month will be ✨️Clara✨️ and her gaggle of girls who seemed to be gossiping around the water fountain today. I can't tell if they're gossiping about how many sunflower seeds are in their scratch or maybe it's the crazy lady who's chasing them around for a picture 📸

Clara is a White Leghorn and probably what you think of when you think of a standard chicken.
White leghorns are known to be amazing layers with a production of 280 and 320 on average annually! That's a lot of eggs!

Clara and her sisters Cecilla, Camilla and Charlotte (don't ask me to tell them apart🤣)
have a very important job here as they are one of the main components to making a zombie chicken! Don't worry they're well paid with lots of tasty mealworms🪱

She and her sisters sport comically large floppy combs they are the goofiest sweetest girls!

✨️This Month the spotlight is on Emerald.✨️

We took Emerald and her friend Sushi in a few months ago and decided to keep their sweet names.💎🍣

Emerald is an Olive Egger who is supposed to be a retired hen! She does still surprise me with a beautiful green egg on ocassion though! And I mean come on how could you not love her! Just look at that little afro!
