There’s a great article in the Northwest Herald right now talking about how food truck owners are feeling the pressure — rising food costs, gas prices, and county rules.

Here’s our take:
Food costs? Manageable. We’ve adapted.
Gas? Sure, that stings — it’s hitting everyone.
But the real issue is the endless county and city fees.

Every town wants their own cut — even after we pay sales tax while serving there. So we get hit twice: once for doing business, and again for being mobile. It’s not the cost of food that hurts small operators like us — it’s being penalized for traveling instead of staying put.

We love bringing our gluten‑free goodness to different communities, but the system makes it harder than it should be. Time for some common‑sense reform so small businesses can keep rolling.

Food truck operators say rising food, fuel and operating costs are squeezing their businesses as they navigate different regulations and fees across Illinois counties

Alright folks — I’ve got a question for you.
As we head into the slower months and the truck starts scaling back, we’re considering offering individual packages of frozen balls with home baking instructions so you can keep the magic going all winter long.

Fresh hot balls during the season…
Bake‑at‑home balls during the off‑season.
Would you be into that?

Let me know — your feedback decides if we roll this out.

Alright friends — this is pretty much our last week of four‑days‑a‑week service. The season is officially starting to wind down, and after months of running 4–6 days a week, it’s time for us to shift gears.

From here on out, we’ll be scaling back to 1–3 services per week, and then eventually it’ll be catering only plus frozen ball pickup at Mortimer’s Bake Shed so you can cook your favorites at home.

So for now?
Come out, grab your fresh hot balls, and enjoy them while you still can — because the season is wrapping up fast.

🌧️ Crystal Lake Brewing — Service Canceled Today 🌧️

Crystal Lake fam — quick update for today.
The weather is straight‑up garbage and rain is called for all day, so we’re canceling service at Crystal Lake Brewing.
Not worth making you stand in the drizzle or having us fight soggy tents and wet equipment.

We’ll be back soon with hot, crispy, gluten‑free goodness when the skies stop being rude.
