America taught me to read. 🇺🇸

As we celebrate America’s 250th today, I am thinking about the 10-year-old kid who landed at JFK from Jamaica, unable to read, write, or even recite the alphabet.

My mother sacrificed everything to get me here. And when I arrived, a group of public school teachers volunteered their own free time to teach me how to read. That high-touch connection changed my life.

When I saw Historic Neirs Tavern was days away from closing in 2009, I knew I had to step up. Saving this place was my way of giving back to the country and the community that gave me everything.

As America hits 250 today, Neirs is officially on the Road to 200. We are celebrating our 197th Anniversary with a massive Block Party on October 3rd, and I want you there.
