This week for our public art and sights post, we're out and about in High Point. We share some well known, but new or familiar/unfamiliar city landmarks. You might pass by often without noticing!
First row and photos 1-3: The keys to the city at Visit High Point! There's fun relatively new sidewalk art of piano keys at the group entrance to the visitor's center and the Business High Point - Chamber of Commerce. The sidewalk art is located in the uptown neighborhood at 1634 N Main St, the side entrance on Welborn St.
Second row and photos 4-6: Congdon Yards with the High Point smokestack downtown during golden hour. Built over a century ago, the former hosiery mill underwent a massive renovation during the pandemic and is open with much to see and do. Congdon Yards is located at 400 W English Rd, beside Truist Point, home of High Point Rockers Baseball.
Third row and photos 7-9: The new Lexington side entrance under construction at High Point University. There's no landscaping yet and the entrance isn't open by the forthcoming Qubein arena, conference center and hotel. But there's a wonderful panther (High Point University Panthers mascot) sculpture, seen here at sunset, fiercely guarding the HPU campus.
These sights are all located within a 5 mile radius of each other and DeBeen Espresso HP. Grab a cuppa DeBeen coffee and explore the city over the holiday weekend! Gain a fresh perspective!
Biweekly, DeBeen posts about public art and fun things to see and do in the Triad, including where you can enjoy coffee and healthy snacks. Check back again in two weeks! Send us your suggestions!
