Taco Fam, I've been missing home a lot lately (even though the temperature has definitely been above zero here in Wilmington, and I'm here for that!). So I thought I'd let you know what I've been up to!
As most of you know, my dad had a pretty severe stroke in August. He retired to Wilmington, NC last year so I shut down the truck and headed south to see how I could help. After two weeks, I came back to NY because we had some contract events, and as a small business owner, I don't make any money to pay bills if I don't work.
After GT shut down for the season in October, I spent a few weeks packing and making sure my amazing team at Downtown Grind had the tools they needed to succeed without me being at the coffee shop in person on the regular. They have gone above and beyond to keep my coffee dream going, and I am so grateful 💛💛
It's been a long, interesting, challenging, affirming, terrifying, and eye-opening few months. I know a lot of you have been able to be there for family for lots of different reasons, and I thank you for sharing your stories and struggles with me 💛
I asked my dad for permission to share some photos of what we've been working on since I moved here to be his advocate and #1 fan, and he said ok.
He's been in rehab since November where we work on core strength, balance, shoulder and leg exercises, and cognitive and speech stuff. He still can't move his left side, which is a pretty big bummer, but cards and phone calls from his friends in the Watkins Glen Class of 1968 fb group have been great! Special thanks to Bob M for the letters and Carol A for the cards; they're on his mirror so he thinks of you often 💛
I've been writing my memoir/advice/cookbook, making candles, working with my Downtown Grind team to keep our favorite coffee shop in Elmira to the highest standard, and making moves to bring GT to Wilmington.
I love and miss you guys!
