Recently, I did something you will almost never me say... I went somewhere for a hotdog! I am the Fatguy who typically despises them. I find that they typically have weird water-flavored aftertaste or a low-cost bologna-like meat flavor. So, you will be absolutely amazed by today's review. Teo's Hotdog restaurant is located at 1410 East St, Pittsfield, MA 01201. A coworker ranted about them, and I finally broke down and gave it a try to take out. For only $ 10, I got 5 of their loaded chili, mustard, and onion mini dogs. These came wrapped in wax paper and delivered in a brown paper lunch bag. The dog itself was a little shorter than a standard ballpark dog, and the bun was a generic long roll. Its taste and texture were fair enough. On top of this feast of standard expectations was something truly special. Their own sauce was rich, moist, and filled with great, strong, taste. The onions were fresh mined and a zesty. Th The meaty Chili was as close as one can get to the afterlife on a hotdog. It was pure Bliss! The sauce was perfect, the beans well mixed, the beef cooked and seasoned to die for. The service, while gruff, was fast, helpful, and attentive. The only downside was that this is a cash-only establishment. It is a far reach to find that level of quality, amazing taste, and amount of food for that price. Teo's gets the first and possibly the last 5 FATBELLIES score I ever give to a hotdog. Recently, the Fatguys went out to 398 US-1, Scarborough, ME 04074 to try The Holy Donut. It was a little disappointing as most of their options were gone only a little after lunchtime, and they are open until 4 pm. We wanted to try their "hot and savory," but these were sold out as were most donut flavors. We did get a half dozen, which, while a little large, were insanely expensive. Each donut varied in price, starting at $4.50! Our first was the honey lavender. This is an excellent place to start as its description echos through almost all of the donuts. The donut was heavy and a little dry. It tasted like an original donut with a heavy raw potato after taste. All of the honey lavender flavor was it the solid hard icing on top. While it broke apart and fell off, it was irritable, delicious, and sweet. Both the honey and the lavender were strong and would make any food it was on top of beyond irresistible. Next was the maple bacon donut. This has the same base donut with a glazing. In the top glaze were good-sized and plentiful real bacon pieces. While the bacon was fair, their was not enough of the maple taste to overpower the base donut. The strawberry sprinkle donut was one of our favorites. The strawberry flavor went through the entire donut.while, their was still that raw potato aftertaste; it was much less prevalent. The frosting and sprinkles made this a really enjoyable donut. The Whoopee pie donut was fair but not overly memorable. The Maine blueberry was much like the strawberry sprinkle one in that it had the flavor throughout the donut. It did not have the strong topping flavors, however. The toasted coconut was my personal favorite. The varied flavors and textures elevated the donut. These flakey and plentiful coconut shavings had a great flavor. Combined with the donut itself, it was truly special. We do strongly advise 2 things. Make sure to have a coffee for milk for dipping or, at the last, to rectify the dryness after the fact. Secondly eat them immediately they go dryer, hard, and stale very fast. The few we didn't eat immediately here were very hard in less than 24 hours. The staff was also stale, slow, and forgettable, I am afraid. Overall, they scored above average but have much higher potential. They score 3 FATBELLIES as a rating. For more information ease try them in person or check out their links below....

Recently the Fatguys and Honorary Fatlady tried Figlio's located at 1366 Main St, Palmer, MA 01069. This reminded me very much of the small European restaurants I recall from trips abroad.

The staff was exceptional and further the feel of being overseas. I will say we do have a love hate relationship with their fixed price times that have a multicourse meal for a price while fair for quantity rules out alot of times for many of us due to cost. The regular meals while not a discount were very fair priced and generously portioned.
They started with amazing bread that was both crisp and soft while being served hot. It came in and artful formation with an almost breschetta topping like like dip. It proves the rule good starter bread good food! Next was the chicken parmigiana. This was a massive serving of pipping hot food.

The chicken was breaded with Italian bread crumbs coating it's thin but moist fillets. It was covered in rich, fresh, house-made marinara. While underportioned the fresh mozzarella was deliciously adorned on top of this. This was served with an unusual but large portion of rating pasta with sauce. This is a must have plate for sure! It was right around $18! Finally was a variation on one of our all time favorite meals. Fettuccine Francesco was their father's/chef's family recipe variant on the classic Alfredo dish. It had a perfectly medium thickness cream, sweet butter, and ricotta sauce. This was thin adorned with pecorino Romano cheese that completed possibly one of the best renditions of this great pasta plate we can remember anywhere! The portion was massive and filling as well. It was also $18 which is right around market pricing! If you like quality food, a special unique European experience that hasn't been too American iced, and leave happy, full, and smiling ear to ear you must go to Figlio's! They earn 4.5 FATBELLIES as a rating. Please make sure to check them out in person as well as at their link below...

Coming up on the 250th anniversary of this country we thought it would be a great time to review a perfect slice of classic Americana. If you take a ride down the old school route roads of Massachusetts to 1173 MA-9, Windsor, MA 01270 you will find an old school ssndwhich shop, gas station, liquor, and grocery store by the name of Friendly Fred's. All the locals even a town over talk about this place and for good reason. The sandwiches start at $3.63 and go up to $9.99 only! They offer bulkie roll style or small or large grinder variants. The staff also have that classic welcoming, caring, and personable roadside hospitality demeanor and made sure we were both satisfied abd safe to get back on the road. We started with a small cold cut grinder. It was on a very soft fresh grinder roll and had options to add however we kept it simple with lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise, and American cheese. The sandwhich was juicy, fresh, flavorful, high quality, and delicous. We also ordered a delicous and massive, soft m&m candy filled cookie! It was a perfect cookie with flavorful light dough and plenty of m&ms. So if uou ever find yourselves in the backroads near Windsor, Massachusetts stop into Friendly Fred's and enjoy this special 4 FATBELLIES rated gem! Recently, the Fatguys stopped at Daddy's Bone Town Burgers. This food truck is based out of 82 Crest Ave, Revere Massachusetts. We got two burgers. The first of which was their "Die Munster Die" burger. This had siracha pickles, limited but tasty bacon aioli(which tasted like a creamy aioli with blended bacon bits), thin melted Munster cheese, and small over easy eggs. The ground chuck patty was textured like a smash burger, which is an awful trend that removed the juices and was a little dry like a frozen patty overcooked. Somehow, it had decent flavor, and when assembled, it made a pretty good burger. With a few touches, this could be completely a game changer, but they did not quite get there. The fries were shoe string and saltless but at least crispy and plentiful.
Next was the Lemmy. The patty was much the same; however, this sandwich had crispy bacon, crunchy smoked onion crisps, bourbon bbq ( possibly ketchup based) sauce, and cheddar cheese. This sandwich was good, but again, the patty was a little dry. Overall, the prices were fair, staff friendly, portions decently sized, and the quality acceptable to above average if not our particular style. They are also very humanitarian, and we support that. They earn 3.5 FATBELLIES as a rating. Check them out in person or at the links below...

Recently, the Fat Guys went out to 90 Commercial Street, Worcester Ma. This is, of course, Off The Rails! While this is obviously more set up for shows or performances, it still provides a nice and more local version of a Hard Rock style cafe. The service was quick and friendly. The prices are fair if a little high for portion or quality levels, especially for the area as well. The fries were lightly warm, shoe string but not terrible. The portion was fair on the fries as well. Both sandwiches came with these, so that part was the same across the board. The $18 Nashville hot chicken sandwich was a fair diameter. The patty itself had an almost sandpaper texture of really thin breading. The sauce was a nice fair hot sauce but was limited in quantity. The patty was a little dry and thin but still good. This had a simple bun, lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickle slices. These were crisp and fresh and the bun soft. The $19.75 7oz BBQ bacon burger was our other sampling. We were disappointed that the bbq was a low-end style ketchup base. The patty was good, as was the crispy bacon and cheddar cheese. The flights of drinks were exceptional and vibrant fruit flavored margaritas. Overall, they earn a slight above average 2.5 FATBELLIES rating. Not too long ago, the Fatguys went to the Dublin Road Taproom and Eatery(the Shattuck on the receipt). This is located at 53 Dublin Rd, Jaffrey, NH 03452. The restaurant had an amazing view and felt like a grand hall with its vaulted high ceiling and big windows. All food had to be ordered at the counter. The prices were definitely fair. That said, their Wednesday 1/2 price burger special received our attention. We both took advantage of the Bacon Bleu burgers. We had one order with potato salad with onion rings. The potato salad was creamy, moist, and delicious. It was a soup bowl full. The onion rings were some of the best we have had. They were thick, lightly crispy, yet tender inside. The burgers themselves were fair sized and juicy despite resembling a smash burger. It was a little heavier cooked than we personally prefer. The bacon is perfectly tender with just enough crispness. The bleu cheese crumbles were fresh and plentiful. The bun was a bit basic and let down an otherwise great burger. This was all served on disposable plates. The burger meals were regularly $15.48, so the 1/2 price special was a great deal. The staff was friendly and quick as well. Overall, Dublin Road Taproom and Eatery score 4 FATBELLIES as a rating! Recently, the Fatguys went to 537 Main St, Indian Orchard, MA 01151; to finally try the Bickhouse Tavern. While they do have an ample parking lot, look for the funeral home sign, and it can only be entered from one way on the road. The layout inside was a little cramped and the staff friendly but discombobulated. We found it confusing. We loved their more original menu category, naming such as "Grave" for salads and such. We started with their fried mozzarella. They describe these as wedges of golden fried cheese. These were vastly different. The best comparison I can give is a mozzarella schnitzel. Yes, I know it's a weird comparison. The breading, the texture, and the seasoning the only difference was that the thin vineeer of cheese not pork. While, they were very good and crunchy expect them to be vastly different. The chunky marinara that was almost like a salsa worked perfectly in tandem with the mozzarella. They were $13.95. The cobb came for $9.95. It was a generous portion size.It had real bacon that was slightly crispy. Then, there were delightful hard-boiled egg halves that were juicy. It also had scallions, black olives, red onions, all on tomatoes, and greens. It also had plentiful Bleu Cheese crumbles. My slightly fussy sister even said this was good. The only complaint, and this is more a personal choice, was the dressing which they were willing to substitute.
Next were the baked scallops. These were moist and tender and amongst the best we have had and the perfect mothers' day surprise. They were served golden brown, served with tartar sauce, and cole slaw. All were fair portions and high quality. They were very sweet, and the cole slaw was lightly so as well. The fries were soft but hot.Last but not least was a 20-piece order of wings. These were $24.95, which is definitely pricey! That said, these were tied for some of the best wings we have ever eaten. Stop everything and go get an order right now!!! We did 2 flavors. First of these was the Buffayaki. This is a blend of slightly spicy tangy buffalo sauce and sweet terryaki providing a mixed palate of flavors and a special taste. We do wish it was a little spicier, but they were magnificent. The wongs themselves were massive and meaty. They were also perfectly cooked. The second flavor was the Carolina Tabgy Gold wings. These were almost a clone of the Ebs Gold wings out in Agawam and equally magnificent! That said, these were pipping hot and delicous. This is a sweet and tangy mustard bbq sauce. I challenge you to try and stop eating these once you start. It will be nearly impossible! The blue cheese was fine, and the celery hair thin but with wings like these who cares!?!.... Overall the portions were excellent, the flavors and quality exceptional, prices a little high, the service while friendly could definitely be improved, and we left very satisfied. Please check them out online below and in person. They earn a very rare 4.5 FATBELLIES. If the service was a hair better or the wings under $20 for the 20, this would have been a perfect 5....

Recently the Fatguys went to the Center Square Grill located at 84 Center Square, East Longmeadow, MA 01028. The atmosphere was typical corporate styling attempting to be kampy and yet sterille. It was nice, however and not a complete yawn fest. The ourside garden of their own vegtables, and numerous subrooms as well as outdoor dinning added some character. The prices were highly inconsistent from fair to quite a bit elevated depending on the item. The menu was very diverse and we appreciated their food allergy marking guides; however we did not confirm celiac safe standards so please do so. We sat nearly immediately. Our server was amazing and honest. I truly must say we respected and appreciated Brennan F. We did not need to inquire ad he came out resonably and appologized for the kitchen being behind, he kept our drinks full, checked on us reasonably, was personable, and despite the slow appetizers, salads, and entrees he made sure they were spaced out and not all at once. The starter bread was cold but not without taste. We couldn't quite decide what it was it had some attributes of a rye, but it was not one. It did however come with an amazing dip that was somewhere between a horseradish and an aioli. It was addicting. They also had butter packets. We appreciate the option however the dip was too good and if you are serving butter make your own like a cinnamon honey butter. Packets take away from the experience. Then we ordered the $14 cast iron skillet meatballs. This served up three allegedly(not in reality) jumbo meatballs. These were made inhouse and baked with their zesty, chunky, sweet, and rich marinara sauce. They then mounted creamy house made ricotta and a generous leafing of fresh basil. While small and very overprived per portion. These were perfectly cooked and fell apart easily. They were served beyond hot however the sauce was borderline cold which when adding the cold ricotta made a complete palleting. We would have preffered the sauce hot and the ricotta as is. These were exceptional tasting however and properly seasoned. We could not get enough of them. Next we ordered the large size of their hand cut truffle fries. Ironically the fries were the only negative of this dish. While we liked the hand cut and ultra fresh nature, as well as the proper thickness, and saltiness. They were simply soggy beyond words somehow while being an appreciated hot temperature. This massive large order was $14.50 they do offer a smaller order for $7.25. The fries were drizzled upon with an amazing and delicous truffle oil. Over this they added hand shaved paremesean which had big chunks and really made this absolitely amazing. They came with an amazing truffle aioli. This was one of the most amazing tasting things we have consumed. It tasted like garlic aoili with truffle oil in it. It was amazing I could drink it! That said our one big complaint;and we hate when places do this, please stop putting ketchup pn a plate and not listing it on thw menu. There are people like myself who are severely allergic. The meals we ordered each came with a small plated salad. These had every fancy leafed version of lettuce and an unusual dressing selection. While we always like more dressing the rough textures of certain leaves and the amazing flavors of their dressings made of crave more than we were supplied with.
The first main entree was a special. It was their $19 beef bourguignon. This was an absolutely amazing dish and needs to be added to their regular menu! It had the most tender beef that was much the same flavors and textures as a good pot roast! The beef was plentiful and this was a rather good portion size plate as well. The beef was simmered in a red wine demi gravy and was servef with chunky homemade mashed potatoes, sparse mushrooms, pearl onions, and carrots. This was some of the best beef we can recall.
Last was their $26 shepherd's pie! This price especially considering the rather small portion size was absurd. It was served in one of those small cast iron dishes a desert cookie is often found in. The garlic and cheese mixed mashed potatoes were a nice touch. The beef had a sweetness in the sauce as if it had red wine mixed with the gravy. The vegtables were limited. Overall it somehow came together pretty well and serves hot as it should be.
Overall we strongly encourage you to check out their links below and go try their amazing service and great food. They earn a very rare 4.5 FATBELLIES rating!
