Food has such a powerful way of carrying our memories. One familiar smell or flavor can take us back to happier, simpler times and bring a smile to our faces.
While making orange cinnamon rolls this morning, I found myself thinking about my mother. When I was a child, she would sometimes make Pillsbury cinnamon rolls as a special weekend treat. We usually had the traditional cinnamon ones, but every once in a while, she would buy the ones with the orange icing—and those were my absolute favorite. Orange has always been my favorite flavor.
Waking up to the smell of cinnamon rolls baking felt like Christmas morning. Looking back, I have a feeling she chose the orange ones especially for me.
My beautiful mother has been gone since 1980, and we still miss her every day. Today’s orange cinnamon rolls were made in her memory—and with a whole lot of love. Isn’t she beautiful? 🧡
