Eggless Red-velvetcake! When a cake order goes south… 🍰
Not every cake order goes exactly as planned—and this one taught me a few important lessons.
The first miss was on colors. I didn’t clarify the exact color palette with the client, and that left room for expectations to be different from what I delivered. Lesson learned: never assume when it comes to design details. Always confirm, preferably with a reference or a clear color palette.
Then came the feedback that the cake was dry.
This one was particularly difficult to hear because I had made the exact same flavor for another client around the same time, and they absolutely loved it. So while I can’t say for certain what happened with this particular cake, I also don’t want to dismiss the client’s experience. A cake can be technically made the same way and still be perceived differently depending on serving temperature, storage, or individual preference.
The biggest takeaway? Communication matters just as much as the baking.
As a baker, it’s easy to focus on getting the recipe and the design right—but understanding exactly what the client envisions is just as important.
Not every order is a win. But every order can be a lesson. ❤️
And yes… I’ll be asking a LOT more questions about colors from now on! 😅🎂
