Oconee Cultivation Project

Oconee Cultivation Project The Oconee Cultivation Project works to create a community that celebrates local food, agricultural traditions, and sustainable living practices.

We provide our community with opportunities to develop skills through mentorship and education. The Oconee Cultivation Project (OCP) is an initiative of three county natives who see a need for opportunities in engagement and skill-building for youth in the area. Having all graduated from local high schools, we have seen a general lack of pride for living in our beautiful area among this age group

and want upcoming generations to stay and support the growth of Oconee. OCP wishes to preserve the rich agricultural history of this area and continue to pass down these traditions that run deep in our county with through education and mentorship in agricultural and culinary practices. Our project is seeking to give the youth of Oconee county an outlet for their time and interests, leading to lasting self worth and community involvement. By participating in our CultivaTeen Summer Youth Program, students learn basic agricultural techniques, practice basic culinary skills, and begin exploring local food systems. In the process, they will experience the collective sense of accomplishment and fulfillment of belonging to a community that supports one another in an authentic way. The Oconee Cultivation Project has helped start and fund two community gardens in Oconee County, led cooking classes at local kitchens, and empowered youth through CultivaTeen since 2016.
