One of the biggest misconceptions about custom cakes is that dummy cakes are much cheaper than real cakes.
The truth? They’re usually not.
While dummy cakes eliminate the baking and filling process, they don’t eliminate what takes the most time: the decorating. The dummy itself has a cost, and the same techniques, fondant, precision, and attention to detail are required to create the final design.
Dummy tiers are a great option when you want the look of a larger cake without needing as many servings. Combining real and dummy tiers is something we do often, depending on each client’s needs.
Another option clients ask about is having a display cake with a separate kitchen sheet cake. While we can absolutely do that, it’s typically the more expensive option because you’re paying for both.
One important note: if we’re creating the display cake, we also provide the kitchen sheet cake. That way, the beautiful cake your guests admire is paired with the same cake they’ll actually taste.
Every event is different, which is why these details are always part of the consultation.
