”Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain!“

Certainly one of the most famous movie lines EVER!

Well, long story short, I’m going to HUMBLE BRAG which I rarely do….but I just can’t help myself. The man behind the curtain in today’s parlance is the algorithms that run the internet. Our humble little cafe FB page draws millions of views per week! And now, the internet noticed…..

I’ll be DANGED if a search on Facebook about the best pastrami sandwiches took my breath away!!

YES, YES, YES! Another hall of fame movie quote which many of you know, that unforgettable scene from When Harry Met Sally was filmed at Katz Deli in New York City! Home of the world’s most famous PASTRAMI sandwich!!

Whaaaat! To have Salsa Guy Cafes Pastrami Sandwich mentioned by Facebook in the same sentence is an honor I’ll always cherish!! Wow. Just WOW!

Yes….It is that good. House cured, brined and smoked to perfection. Just waiting to meet your appetite. And trust me, you’ll be saying YES! YES! YES! when you feast on your very own!!

If any of the Salsa Guy Cafe Pastrami Sandwich lovers would like to accept the challenge, I’m going to pick a winner from anyone who posts to this Facebook thread a “COPYCAT” video of you mimicking Eriing Haaland who seems to have captured the attention of the entire world with his fun, whimsical and competitive attitudes on and off the soccer field! He plays for Norway and it appears most of the American fans have adopted him as our new hometown favorite guy!

This is a video of him chomping down on the world famous Katz Deli Pastrami Sandwich in New York City. All you need to do is get yours HERE at the cafe and do your best impression of this video…..

I enjoyed my own Pastrami Sandwich at Katz Deli way back in 1995 and told myself, if we ever served this at the cafe, it would have to meet or EXCEED the quality of this world renowned sandwich! I think we met that mark!

The winner will receive a $100 gift card to the cafe, which will buy you a lot of our House Brined-Cured-Smoked Pastrami!!

If Salsa Guy Cafe is legendary for anything in this town….it’s for the ENTHUSIASM that occurs with an early morning Breakfast Burrito!

We have 19 years of evidence from the Cedar Rapids Downtown Famers Markets!

Here’s more first hand evidence: The hard working folks at Collins Aerospace lined up enthusiastically for these tasty breakfast treasures this morning.

I’m told the building was BUZZING about today’s event, so much so we had a dancing burrito show up at the delivery and help unload the van. Thanks for that Jode! You are one of the coolest people I know!!

We can bring you 50 burritos or 1500 burritos and yes, 15,000 burritos if you are that hungry. I might need to hire a few more chickens for that order…. LOL.

Thank you Collins Aerospace!! We appreciate the support!

Today was the day! Gary from Knights Sweetcorn promised me “first pick sweetcorn” and the sweetest, best Iowa corn is now in the building at Salsa Guy Cafe!

To me, summer doesn’t officially start until I have sunk my teeth into the first ear! If you have yet to sink your teeth into our Mexican Street Corn, then you should be on your way here NOW!

Our line for Street Corn at the Downtown Night market each season would have 300-400 people waiting patiently….

IT. IS. THAT. GOOD!

PS - Gary says the corn wagons will be at ALL locations tomorrow with the exception of Hope Church.

Those who go back 24+ years with me know the humble origins of Salsa Guy Cafe was a table at the Noelridge Park Farmers Market. It was all about LOCAL and my story involves so many of YOU who were dependably there and faithful to supporting my local, small dream that blossomed into something amazing and BIG!!

Meet my friend Abby from ABC Acres all Iowa-made Specialty Food and Gift shop. I haven’t known her that long but I do know her story! She has amazing products and is working day and night, 7 days a week to make her dream blossom too.

I wanna share her small business with you and help her move forward. Please follow them on Facebook and make a trip to her gift shop at the farm!

6657 Mt. Vernon Road SE. This is just across the street from the former Squaw Creek School. Farm fresh eggs, produce, plants and hello: RAW MILK that I use to make amazing batches of Kefir and homemade Greek Yogurt! (For my personal use only - FYI).

Store hours vary each week so you’ll always want to check in on the FB page for her schedule AND the list of farmers markets she attends…..Just like ME back in the day!

Spend $30 at her farm store and you’ll get a FREE SANDWICH COUPON for Salsa Guy Cafe worth up to $15 dollars! She already has the coupons and is ready to wow you with her great inventory!!

For this week her farm store hours are Wednesday, 2 until 6 p.m. and then Thursday from 3-7 p.m.
And of course, tell them Salsa Guy says hello!

Wishing Joe Winters KCRG a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY today! We go WAY BACK and I’m honored to call him a good friend…

20 years ago, in the earliest days of the Downtown Farmers market, Joe stopped by my stall one morning before he went on air. We’re not allowed to sell to the public before 7:30 a.m. but I considered Joe a VIP (which he is) and I let him buy an Avocado Ranch Dressing and a jar of BBQ Sauce.

Unknown to me, Joe went live on the air just minutes later and showcased both products along with his morning weather update.

You could hear the roar of approaching footsteps in the distance. MOBS of people showed up at our stall in the next hour and for the next couple of months, I could barely keep those products in stock! I should probably name a product after Joe soon. I’ll start brainstorming…..

Joe, hope it was an amazing day. I forecast 100% chance this will be your best year yet!

Good morning and Happy Independence Day! Say hello to Matt! He is customer #1 at Salsa Guy Cafe to enjoy our newest menu item: Uncle Mikes Mountain Man!

Super savory, cheesy and satiating! Matt gives us 5 out of 5 stars! And also, Uncle Mike would want you all to get FREE coffee with this dish!

Stop by and enjoy one for yourself. Serving it until 11:00 a.m. today. 10:30 a.m. Monday thru Friday.

For those who didn’t see yesterday’s tribute post about “Uncle Mike” this dish is a proud tradition from the Pack 3 Cub Scout days at Grant Wood School. We would ALWAYS serve this dish out of cast iron Dutch Ovens when we went camping: Sausage, Bacon, Onions, Potatoes, Eggs, Cheese, Salsa and then more Cheese! Baked until gooey and served on a cast iron skillet with a bubbling sauce that pairs perfectly with the Cheesey-Savory goodness on your plate!!
