Apple Streusel Pie Recipe
This Apple Streusel Pie combines a flaky crust, sweet spiced apples, and a buttery crumb topping. It’s the perfect dessert for any occasion!
Ingredients
For the Crust (or use store-bought):
1 1/4 cups (155g) all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup (113g) cold unsalted butter, cubed
3–5 tbsp ice water
For the Apple Filling:
6 cups apples (about 6 medium), peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
(Best varieties: Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji)
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 tbsp all-purpose flour
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg (optional)
1 tbsp lemon juice
1 tsp vanilla extract
For the Streusel Topping:
1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar
1/2 cup (65g) all-purpose flour
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 cup (56g) unsalted butter, melted
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Crust
In a mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or fork until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Add ice water, 1 tablespoon at a time, mixing until the dough comes together.
Roll the dough into a disk, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
Step 2: Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Step 3: Prepare the Apple Filling
In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), lemon juice, and vanilla extract. Toss to coat evenly.
Step 4: Prepare the Streusel Topping
In a medium bowl, mix the sugar, flour, and cinnamon.
Stir in the melted butter until the mixture forms coarse crumbs.
Step 5: Assemble the Pie
Roll out the chilled pie dough on a floured surface and fit it into a 9-inch pie dish. Trim any excess dough.
Pour the apple filling into the crust, spreading it out evenly.
Sprinkle the streusel topping over the apples, covering them completely.
Step 6: Bake
Place the pie on a baking sheet to catch any drips.
Bake in the preheated oven for 45–55 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown. Cover the edges of the crust with foil if they brown too quickly.
Step 7: Cool and Serve
Allow the pie to cool for at least 2 hours before slicing.
Serve warm or at room temperature with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
