As you may have noticed, there is much change afoot. ✨

Almost 4 years ago, I started my small coffee roasting business, with the goal of someday having my own brick and mortar coffee shop. At the time, it was called Indigo Coffee Emporium, but after doing some field research I learned the name was taken, so I pivoted to something honoring my French roots: Colibri & Renard, French for Hummingbird & Fox.

It started very humbly, roasting a pound at a time on my little Huky roaster and peddling bags of coffee at any market that would have me. This is how I found my Arizona haven in the wild and beautiful strangeness that is . It's how I met , .az , and and became enchanted with Tucson, the city I now call home.

Eventually markets turned into pop-ups, offering my own roasted coffee & blended tea by the cup in the form of my own specialty drinks, which evolved into the wonderful collaboration that has me now as one-fourth of .collective , our q***r witchy thirdspace and something that I see now is another evolution, another iteration of what I've already been doing and the direction in which I already want to be heading. I see the impact our work has had on our community, as well as the positive impact it's had on me, despite being one of the most exhausting undertakings I've ever willingly committed to. 😆

I'm pleased to announce that starting in 2025, Colibri & Renard will be merging with Celestia Collective in order to further both of our original missions. I'll be rebranding this account to an account for coffee education & enthusiasm, coffee consultations, recipes, and personal musings from inside the industry as a q***r AuDHD coffee professional and practitioner of witchcraft.

All current unfulfilled orders will be completed before the start of the new year and I'll be restructuring the website. Coffee and tea bags roasted by yours truly will soon be available on Celestia's website.

I'm so excited for what the future holds! Collaboration > Rugged Individualism every time.

Any questions you may have will be answered as promptly as possible in the comments. 💜

Settle in with a cuppa, y’all. There's tea.

It’s been just a little under four months since we got the keys to Celestia Collective, and let me tell you, I have learned a lot.

I’ve remembered some really beautiful things from my barista days, like the power of human connection that comes from even the simplest interactions.

I’ve also learned some really hard things, like the fact that no matter how much you can just want to stay in your lane and do what you love, not everybody is rooting for you–some without even knowing you–and unfortunately, you can’t always expect people to treat you the way you would treat them. It’s like someone expecting the bull not to charge at them because they’re vegetarian.

Since we’ve opened the brick and mortar, we’ve had a few such instances of “bull chargings”…one of which involving someone trying to tank our Google reviews and most recently, a competing business putting in a false complaint to the health department, saying we were operating illegally without running water. (Completely untrue, in case you were wondering…but more on that soon.)

In August we opened with our temporary/seasonal permit from the health department. We had an inspector on-site the day-of and were approved for everything through November when the permit expired; by then we’d be ready to apply for the permanent permit. Again, this was all approved by the health inspector on-site the day we opened. Everything has been going off without a hitch since then, right up til last Thursday.

After this vindictive complaint was made, the department came in for a follow-up and was able to see pretty quickly that we have both hot and cold running water and no health violations. Unfortunately upon reviewing our temp permit, it was found that the permit that we had been approved for was the inappropriate permit for our indoor setup and had been mistakenly granted to us. The health inspector apologized to us and affirmed that this was definitely an oversight on their part and not anything we did wrong, but that we needed to cease coffee service until our new permit was approved. All my magic is such a slow burn, but I'm gradually becoming okay with that.

The seeds for a brick and mortar thirdspace were planted so long ago; if my coffee career was a baby, it'd be graduating high school this year.

I started Colibri & Renard in 2021 as a small e-commerce roasting operation, pushing my body to the limit with every outdoor market and tabling event. I'd done the market hustle for other businesses before, but never for myself. As things grew, a few things became very apparent:

1. I absolutely love doing what I do, even when it's hard and feels impossible.

2. The most important part of any of this is human connection.

3. Once a certain point of growth is reached, it becomes nearly impossible to survive and thrive in the absence of collaboration.

All this to say, Colibri & Renard is finally moving into a brick and mortar space in Tucson! We're joining forces with three other talented entrepreneurs to form .collective

Colibri & Renard will still exist both in person and online, both in and out of Celestia...the only difference is now you can come and see us any time we're open...which will be Wednesday thru Sunday, 9am to 5pm, right next door to

Our soft launch is Thursday, August 15th and our grand opening is September (Friday the) 13th. ✨

I've been thinking a lot about space lately. Liminal space. Third space. Negative space. Even outer space. The presence of absence, and how even Nothing is indeed, Something.

I recently lost a dear friend, someone I was close with since the first coffeehouse I ever worked at. He started off as a customer and regular patron of open mics, and towards the end of my time there we became coworkers. A joymonger to the core, he spent his time on earth singing, laughing, telling stories; living life in all caps. Another life-changing person who I never would have met if it hadn't been for my local thirdspace at the time.

Like anyone who experiences peer death, I am in mourning. But this has also further galvanized me to be someone who fights against the dying of the thirdspace. These places where people gather are rallying points, calls to action, hubs of connection. These little connections are everything, and they mean the world to me. The connection is the art, coffee just happens to be the medium that gets it onto the proverbial canvas.

All this to say, things are changing. Some of it is heartbreaking, like saying goodbye to pivotal loved ones, and some of it is so exciting that I don't fully have the words for it yet, and even if I did, I've been sworn to secrecy for at least another few weeks.

Stay tuned, drink brewed libations, and tell your people you love them. ✨☕✨

My favorite market is in Glendale, AZ this October and I'm a vendor again! ✨😍✨

Seriously y'all I cannot say enough good things about this market. In addition to being the most logistically sound and smooth market I've ever vended at, I can also credit for being the market where I met people so incredible, I had to move cities so I could be closer to them. 🥹🥰

You can catch us here with whole bean coffee, loose leaf tea, artisanal drinking powders and sugar cubes, as well as coffee and tea themed art and curio. 🌒☕🌘
