Food For Thought

Food For Thought Volunteer non-profit group dedicated to making sure Thomaston, GA schoolchildren don't go hungry over weekends and school breaks. Something had to be done.

Over breakfast at The Tasty Shoppe one Tuesday morning in 2012, Vicki Huckaby, Ruth Hatchett, Julie Love and Elizabeth DeLoach made a profound decision. After discussing what was one of Thomaston's most serious problems at the time for numerous schoolchildren - hunger - they decided to do something about it...

The four women had heard from teachers that many of our area children were going home

from school for the weekends and breaks and not having access to enough food. Unbelievably, for some, the meals at school were the only food they had during a given school day. Imagine, here in Thomaston, a child going through a weekend starving. So, these vivacious four did what they do best, they organized and they accomplished! And all from their loving hearts. If you’re interested in volunteering, the group meets every Wednesday when school is in session to fill bags with nonperishable food to be delivered to the schools…
and/or
if you’d like to donate money to help with the cost of purchasing the food…
