It’s wild to me that homeschooling is still considered the weird choice.

Why is it so strange that I want to raise AND educate my own kids?

When did that become such a controversial thing?

📚✨ FRIDAY HISTORY LESSON

Today’s history lesson hit a little closer to home because we weren’t just studying history—we were studying our own. ❤️

Meet A.J. Smitherman, our great-great-great-grandfather. 🖤

A.J. Smitherman was a Black newspaper publisher, editor, and community leader who used his voice and his newspaper to speak out against racial injustice and stand up for the rights of Black Americans. Through his work, he encouraged his community to stay informed, stand strong, and fight for equality.

Learning his story makes our history lesson feel different. It reminds us that Black history isn’t only found in textbooks or attached to famous names. It can be found right within our own family trees—in the people who worked, sacrificed, led, and made a difference in their communities.

That’s something I want my children to truly understand: history isn’t just something we read about. It’s the stories, struggles, accomplishments, and lives of the people who came before us.

And that’s exactly why we’re digging deeper into our family history—learning about our roots, asking questions, doing the research, and discovering the legacy that has been passed down through generations.

Because when you know where you come from, you begin to understand who you are. 🥹❤️

This is the kind of history lesson I want my babies to remember—not just learning about the world around them, but discovering the remarkable people whose courage, strength, and legacy are a part of our own story. 📖✨

What’s a piece of history your proud to share?

Today’s message came from the simplest little lesson. ❤️📖

My son was reading his youth Bible, learning about God and all the beautiful things He created for us to see, explore, and enjoy.

That’s one of the things I love about homeschooling—learning doesn’t always have to look like worksheets and textbooks. Sometimes it’s a little Bible in little hands, a curious mind, and a conversation about the world God made for you and me. 🌎✨

Planting those seeds early. 🌱❤️

📚 Today’s homeschool read!

The kids picked What Do You Do With a Problem? by Kobi Yamada for today’s reading time. ❤️

I love when they get to choose what they want to read because it makes learning feel more personal and fun. Today we’re talking about problems, perspective, courage, and finding solutions. 🧠✨

Just another day of learning, growing, and figuring things out together! 🏡
