The Beefy Chicken - guardian of the land of whimsy, advocate for the contradictory, and lover of our beautifully imperfect world. The Beefy Chicken was one of my mind's earliest creative combinations, and has since become an artistic mascot of sorts. He has guided the way as I've dabbled in various arts and crafts, and continues to represent my love of combinations with my current craft: embroider

y hoop art. The Chicken:
At one time, when I was younger and only slightly more silly, The Beefy Chicken was born out of my strange sense of humor. Bored in study hall, I was drawing beefy arms on random creatures and objects (as one does) and BOOM, The Beefy Chicken was born. I loved the contradiction. He soon became my mascot as I continued drawing him everywhere I could - chalkboards, notebooks, on my arms, on sandwiches, etc. It seemed only natural that he should be the mascot of my creative endeavors. The Art:
Growing up, I was always a crafty kid, getting lost in whatever project I could get my hands on at the time. I saw the creative potential in any physical object lying around. I loved seeing the finished product come together and knowing that I brought it to life. I eventually fell in love with sewing of all kinds and volunteered my skills for theatre groups, friends, and family. In college, I finally tried embroidery. It was perfect, combining my love of art and color with my love of sewing and physical materials. My embroidery hoop art pieces emerge out of this love of combinations. Ideas come from all over. I am constantly in awe of nature and draw much of my inspiration from the scenery around me or images that stick in my mind. The Materials:
I use a mixture of new and old materials, generally working with what I have on hand before purchasing specific colors/patterns. I was raised with the sense that nothing should go to waste, and I've transferred that sentiment to my art. I use a lot of fabric scraps and remnants, giving new life to what otherwise would have been considered trash. For this reason, specific sources and fiber content are usually unknown. I do, however, use 100% cotton DMC embroidery floss for all embroidery hoops. All of my handmade creations can be found in my Etsy shop: http://www.etsy.com/shop/thebeefychicken
