A word packed with so much significance, Aloha has applications for all facets of life, not just in saying hello and goodbye. Locals know the importance of “living aloha” on the islands. It signifies a way of life through unity and oneness with mankind, the sea and da ‘aina. In concert with the Hawaiian lifestyle Buzz's Hawaiian Grill is concerned with our planet. The earths water supply, landfills and food source. We use eco-friendly containers wherever possible to reduce landfill waste. Not only are our dishes compostable, so are the utensils, and straws we use. Our napkins are 90% post-consumer recycled fiber with a bleach free process. Even our Hawaiian Shave Ice cups are made from biodegradable (PLA) plastics, which are derived from renewable resources such as corn starch, sugar cane and tapioca. The Hawaii State Legislature is considering a bill to ban polystyrene containers in 2018. Buzz's Hawaiian Grill banned Styrofoam in 2016.

There’s a difference.

Plenty of places can chop up some chicken, toss it in a sweet sauce and put “Huli Huli Chicken” on the menu.

But authentic Hawaiian-style Huli Huli is about more than a sauce. It’s about the process and the grill.

At Buzz’s, Huli Saturday actually starts on Thursday.

🐔 Thursday: Whole chickens go into our brine overnight.

🌺 Friday: The birds are dried, seasoned with Buzz’s own dry rub and rested overnight again.

🔥 Saturday morning: Buzz fires up his specially built Huli flipping grill with kiawe wood chunks, and the birds are grilled whole, turned over the fire and allowed to slowly develop that beautiful smoky, caramelized skin.

Three days. Whole birds. Real fire. Kiawe smoke.

THAT is Huli Huli Chicken.

Here’s a pretty good clue: If they’re grilling whole birds, you’re probably headed in the right direction. If your “Huli Huli” starts out as chopped-up pieces of chicken... well, somebody may be taking a little creative license with the name. 😉

The word manapua comes from the Hawaiian phrase mea ʻono puaʻa: mea means “thing,” ʻono means “delicious,” and puaʻa means “pork.” Put it all together and you get a “delicious pork thing.” Honestly, what more do you need to know?
