Mama Beans' on Holy Grounds Brand purpose:
Mama Beans on Holy Grounds is a coffee business, but it's about so much more than coffee!

Mama Beans on Holy Grounds is an online coffee company established in 2022, that exists to bring people around tables and living rooms through a good cup of coffee and offers extensive leadership training and mentorship to young women of color. Having served the Spokane community in various ministry and service capacities over the last three decades, Stephy "Mama Beans" Beans was looking for a spa

ce in which her heart for people, for conversation, and for empowering women of color could culminate in one. Our coffee will be sourced from local Indaba Coffee beans and sold online, along with other goodies and merchandise, upon launch. Stephy hopes to open a brick-and-mortar shop in Spokane within the next couple of years. Mama Beans on Holy Grounds will also be a leadership and employment program for women of color who have an interest in business, entrepreneurship, and/or professional mentorship. The program functions under the goals of "lead, learn, and love"- teaching women of color to lead, allowing them opportunities to learn, and allowing them to dwell in a space of love: for self and for others. The Mama Beans audience is two-fold:
Audience A is coffee-drinkers in Spokane and around the world who are excited by a good cup of coffee, especially when shared with a meaningful conversation. These individuals will likely hear of Mama Beans on Holy Grounds through Stephy and her various partners and vast network, which is concentrated in Spokane but extends far beyond. Based on the social impact nature of Mama Bean's mission, it is safe to assume that many of the customers will be drawn in by the culture and the broader mission and influence of the business. There are many options for a cup of coffee, but there is only one Mama Beans. Audience B is the women who will be integral to the Mama Beans business model as employees and leaders. These women come from a whole variety of backgrounds, but face historical and systemic barriers as people of color. Prior to coffee, Mama Beans operated a home for women escaping domestic violence, which is where she continued to realize the hunger for women of color to be given opportunities to lead, learn, and love- and to be loved. While the coffee business is a new endeavor, she hopes to create a safe, loving environment for women of similar backgrounds and remind them of the strength and potential through giving them training and employment at Mama Beans on Holy Grounds. Additionally, Stephy hopes to be able to grow Mama Beans into a leadership learning space for non-employee women of color who are eager to gain community and connections. Brand positioning & niche:
While there are a plethora of boutique coffee shops in Spokane and throughout the PNW, none of them are owned and operated by Mama Beans. The vision for this new endeavor comes from her own story of being discounted and doubted as a woman of color pursuing a career, and offers an opportunity for the community to surround the rising generation of women of color and rewrite the historic narrative of who and what we celebrate and expect they can be. Mama Beans' great expectation is for the coffee to be relatable, human vessel through which these women realize their truest and fullest potentials. Customers of Mama Beans can be assured that when they purchase a bag of beans or cup of coffee here, they aren't supporting another capitalistic effort, but a truly life-transforming ministry.

We are almost at the end of August, but as we embrace the beautiful colors of August and step toward the changing season, we at Mama Beans On Holy Grounds want to pause and say thank you. Your love, support, and prayers continue to fuel this journey, and we are deeply grateful for each of you who are part of our coffee community.

We are excited to share that in 2024 we reached over $65,000 in coffee sales! This milestone was made possible because of you—our faithful subscribers, supporters, and friends who believe in more than just a cup of coffee. Every purchase you’ve made has brewed hope, connection, and leadership for women in our community and beyond.

We are so excited to step into another month here at Mama Beans On Holy Grounds

Coffee as we continue moving forward with passion and purpose.
Let’s be honest—life as an entrepreneur isn’t always easy. Being a small business owner, especially in the online space, comes with its own unique set of challenges.

And as a woman of color in business, there have been moments when I’ve felt like throwing in the towel. But my love for coffee and my deep passion for creating space for women of color in entrepreneurship always push me to keep going.

August is such a beautiful season of transition. As we prepare to enter fall, the leaves begin to change, schedules get busier, and life feels full. There’s something powerful about pausing with a good cup of coffee—taking a moment to sit down, reflect, and
brainstorm the day or week ahead. That warm, comforting sip reminds us that even in the busyness, we can find clarity and accomplishment.
