We are deeply saddened by the passing of our dear friend and sister of the auxiliary. Brenda was one of the few remaining founding members of the auxiliary. Her life touched so many people and the loss of this amazing woman will be felt by many in her community. We extend our deepest condolences to her children and her family. Her dedication to veterans and their families is one that will be remembered by many. We will continue her work as she would want.

Brenda Mary Rabel, 79, of South Charleston passed away November 8, 2025, at home.

Brenda was a lifelong farmer along with her husband, John, who preceded her in death. She was affectionately known as “B” by her siblings, nieces, and nephews. She was very active in the VFW Auxiliary of the Benny Padilla Post 4768. She touched the lives of many children in the Alum Creek area as a 4-H leader.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Agnes Hogan and sister, Karen.

Brenda is survived by her children, Thomas E. Rabel, Margaret-Anne (Richard) Boggess, and John B. (Angie) Rabel; siblings, Owen (Sharon) Hogan, Maureen Widrick, Evan (Jodi) Hogan, and Barbara (Robert) Bromley; grandchildren, Anthony, McKennah, Haley, Laura, Ella, and Beau Rabel.

A celebration of life will be held from 4:00-7:00pm, Thursday, November 13, 2025, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek. A private entombment will be held at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the VFW Auxiliary of the Benny Padilla Post 4768, 4443 Brounland Road, Alum Creek, WV 25003.

Our next auxiliary meeting will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025 at 2pm at the post. We will hold all future meetings the first Saturday of each month at 2pm at the post until further notice.

Get your poodle skirts pressed and your Chuck Taylor Converse dusted off and join the VFW Post 4768 and Auxiliary for a “Cruise In” on Tuesday, November 11, 2025 as we celebrate Veterans Day! We will be selling hot dogs and baked goods as well as having a flag retirement ceremony. Come on out and see some classic cars. No fee to bring your car but a donation to the Post is welcomed. Post is located on Brounland Road across from Alum Creek Elementary in the old Washington District school building.

Hot dog, hot dog, hot diggity dog. Who wants a hot dog? The VFW Auxiliary will have a hot dog sale on Tuesday, November 11, 2025 at the post on Brounland Road, Alum Creek, WV from 9am to 4pm. Delivery available within 5 miles of the post on orders over $40.
