This year we are participating in the Somerset CAMRA pub trail, and so I thought it’d be a nice idea to try and visit some of these pubs myself, and perhaps even obtain a t-shirt for visiting half (25) of them. I have now collected stickers from 12 of the pubs (see pic. 2), which is pretty good, but what started out as a casual bit of fun, discovering new pubs, has now turned into an operation that is being planned with military precision. Pic 3 shows my planning map, with day trips planned and potential routes highlighted, and now my aim is to visit all 50 of the pubs. We are closed on Tuesdays, which presents my greatest opportunity to visit these pubs. But my problem is that, so too are several of the other pubs closed 😬 However, with some nifty planning and bagging myself a couple of days across the weekends, I now hope to visit every single pub on the map before the deadline in September. With a designated driver on hand, wish me luck my unexpected, but, so far, rewarding challenge🤞💪🫡

This week it is the turn of SKUNKS DC to entertain us with a raucous set of punk, ska and reggae. Some of these guys used to be in the band Transporters, so you will be familiar with their work. Massive thanks to all who attended the quiz on Wednesday last. I can’t remember one where more fun was had - and one where everyone scored so highly ⬆️ 😀 out of possible 71, our winners (team name ‘won’t cry for thee, Argentina - genius, btw) scored 59, and everyone bagged a thoroughly decent haul of points. Topics covered during the night included Neil the Seal, what Wayne Rooney really thought about the World Cup half time entertainment show, and a certain 95-year-old actor, who is making a foray into heavy metal music for the first time. The picture round appealed to all teams this time, as I asked them to identify landmarks and locations of the UK - some ok, some a little more tricky. Oh, and who could forget the night ending with me asking you to distinguish between the lyrics of Taylor Swift, and the prose of Jane Austen. All excellent stuff.

Wow😳💪⭐️ What a week it has been. First of all we had the mass gathering of the Buddhafield festival goers to watch the football ⚽️ on Wednesday, then we had a rocking band night🎸🥁 on Friday. Saturday saw this massive seafood platter for 9 people (see picture). These platters included lobsters, scallops, oysters, crevettes, crabs, langoustines, soft shell crabs, squid, mussels and king prawns. What a royal feast it was😳🫡😍 - and this was followed directly by another peaceful invasion of festival people. Later that evening we witnessed the frankly amazing 10-goal football match between France and England, an then last night we saw Spain triumph in the final. All of this was played out on a backdrop of gloriously sunny weather ☀️☀️- Oh, how we love the summer.

Last week has left us feeling exhausted, but we are so grateful for the support of everyone, and the tireless work of our whole team for making all of this happen. And, now we look forward now to the start of summer holidays, which will hopefully bring more good times. 😀⭐️☀️🐠

This incredible picture, taken by Neil Thomas shows the peaceful invasion of the Holman Clavel by the revellers of the Buddhafield Festival last night for the football. In all, there must have been about 200 people who packed out the pub and the beer garden. Thanks to our amazing team for coping with it being four deep at the bar for four hours straight. And to the kitchen staff, including Just James who kept the food coming during this time. But mostly, special thanks go to Neil, Jay and Amy for helping us without hesitation to keep up with serving drinks and collecting and washing glasses. What superstars you were, to sacrifice your enjoyment of the football to help us when we were in a bit of a crisis. What great locals we have 💪🫡⭐️🤩☀️⚡️👌
