When we say Shulls, you say Burg.
Shulls. Burg. Shulls. Burg. Shullsburg!
In a tiny corner of Lafayette County rests a charming little town with a big historical footprint. Shullsburg should be on every wandering travelers list of places to visit.
When you're entering town while traveling west on Hwy 11, first stop and grab some award winning cheese from Roelli Cheese Co. Inc.. So many selections, only so much cooler space. Choose wisely. If you happen to be entering town coming south on County O, veer off on Dry Bone Rd and visit Gleason Cattle Company & Meats, especially on Tuesday and Thursdays from 2-6pm. Beef, pork, lamb - they have it all.
Once you finally get into town, make your way to Water Street. This historic street has everything you need.
If you're appetite needs curing, you'll find four delicious options, each unique in their own way. Water Street Market & Cafe offers both breakfast and lunch, all homemade. Oh, and don't leave without at least taking a piece of Grandma Suzie's dessert with you. If you're in town during the afternoon, a cool place to stop for a drink of a signature pizza is Grindstone Pub. The Pub also has live music from time to time. If you're in town late, The Burg "Classic Tavern and Casual Dining" has the feel and taste of a supper club. The Burg is also open during lunch. Lastly, snag a game of pool or a good bar burger at Geeves Corner Bar . Let the good times roll.
If you enjoy shopping, you'll be met with a variety of stores. Check out the lately fashion trends at JACE Boutique. Their friendly staff will help you pick an outfit that makes you feel both beautiful and confident. You also much check out Goldie's Closet. The children's selection is the cutest. Nearby is Kingsley Crossing, the "do it all" store. They have clothing, decor, flowers, ice cream, and coffee. This two-floor store will keep you engaged for hours. Lastly, make your perfect trip complete by visiting Perfecht Gift Co. Each item is handcrafted, making it unique and special to each buyer.
If you come for a day, great. If you want to spend more time, check out Lead Region Lodging . There are two separate units available for rent. Your host, Jenny, will set you up comfortably. If your family is the camping type, just up the road is Blackstone Campground & RV Park. The campground is clean, quiet, and quite new. It's just off the ATV trail and each site is full hookup.
Lastly, every trip must be concluded by visiting the famous, Gravity Hill. Drive out of town on County U, follow the directions on the sign and prepare to be amazed.
