The Wild West Dino Den is open Saturdays. 🦖

The dinosaur museum at the Historic Red Shell School is now open to everyone, every Saturday from 1 to 5 pm. Admission is free.

Come stand nose to nose with Big Al, the Allosaurus discovered right here near Shell in 1991. He's back home, full size, teeth and all. Meet Baby Toni, the only fully articulated baby sauropod known to science. And see a recreated Allosaurus nest, based on the only one ever found, between Greybull and Shell.

📍 300 Second Street, Shell. Head up the schoolhouse front steps.
🕐 Saturdays, 1–5 pm
🎟️ Free admission

Bring the kids. Bring the grandparents. Bring anyone who ever wanted to look a dinosaur in the eye.

Thank you, Big Horn Basin.

Saturday more than 400 people came to a town with an official population of 74. Emily and I stood in the backyard around 5 o'clock, looked around, and didn't quite believe it. For 7 years you've shown up and this was the best year yet!

A festival like this only happens because of a team of people:

• The Shell Valley Volunteer Fire Department, for the hay rides.
• Benjaporn Helburn, for painting faces until long after we'd officially closed.
• Thanh and Winnie at Silver Mustang Ranch, for the petting zoo.
• The Wild West Dino Den, for opening the museum and showing off Big Al and Baby Toni.
• Holland Dotson and Kohl Johnathan (and Maverick!), for setting the mood all evening, even in the rain.
• O'Yeah Parties and Events, for the inflatable slide and a great experience for the kids.
• Big Horn Federal, for sponsoring the pumpkin decorating contest.

A heartfelt thank-you to employees and friends who put in a lot of extra work to pull off this community event.

And MOST OF ALL, thank you to everyone who came! You're the reason we do this.

Fall Festival is TOMORROW!! 🍁

Saturday, 3-7pm in the backyard. Free admission.

A few things worth knowing:

🍔 Food and games kick off at 3. (Our regular grill closes at 2 so we can set up for Fall Fest.) Bring on the apple c***r donuts, caramel apples and pulled pork!

🎸 Holland Dotson starts playing at 4:30 — country folk rock out of Billings, with guitarist Kohl Johnathan.

🚜 Hay rides run all afternoon — bring a some dollars for the Shell Valley Volunteer Fire Department donation jar.

🎃 Decorated pumpkins need to be back by 4pm. Winners are announced at 5:30.

🍺 Cold b**r on tap all afternoon.

☀️ Forecast is 77 and partly sunny, with an outside chance of a shower late in the day. Bring a jacket for the evening.

Holland Dotson is playing, with Kohl Johnathan on guitar. Hay rides with the Shell Valley Volunteer Fire Department, and pumpkin bowling and backyard games all afternoon, plus the petting zoo, free face painting and axe throwing. Cold b**r on tap, fall treats from the bakery, and dinner served.

Bring the whole family. See you Saturday!

The pumpkins are here!! 🎃

We're giving away 75 free pumpkins for our pumpkin decorating contest — one per kid, no charge. Pick yours up at the Old Shell Store any time between now and Friday October 9th.

Take it home and decorate it however you like — paint, glitter, googly eyes, carving, whatever you like. Then bring it back to Fall Festival on Saturday October 10th by 4pm. We announce winners at 5:30pm, in three age groups: 0–5, 6–10 and 11 and up.

Only 75 pumpkins, and when they're gone they're gone.

Open 8am-7pm today. Grill opens at noon.

Hay rides run all afternoon at Fall Festival, pulled by the Shell Valley Volunteer Fire Department.

A lot of people don't realize they get no government funding at all. Have you seen the price of diesel?! Imagine what it takes to run a fire truck or ambulance! So bring a few dollars and plan to support this critical community service.

Fall Fest is Saturday, October 10th, 3-7pm. Free admission.
