Ok so tbh since moving here, I haven’t been feeling super excited about the restaurants I’ve been going to because with the tax + tips, a lot of places just aren’t giving ~good value~ and I can’t bring myself to write about it.

…UNTIL TODAY, a rare day when I parked to get boba from .washington to cure my rainy day blues, looked right, and saw a Chinese barbeque restaurant, Ton Kiang Barbeque Noodle House, right beside me.

I decided to just walk in. Ordered the 3 option bento with crispy roasted pork, roast duck, and cold chicken, with a complimentary clear radish soup, and when she handed me the bag, it was SO HEAVY. It came out to $16.

Y’all, the crispy pork skin was so crispy, the ratio of the meat to fat was great, the chicken was nicely salted and not too salty, and the roast duck was on point too. The rice and the stir fry cabbage are mild and balanced out the more salty meats nicely. 10/10 💜

This girl never gate keeps!! Can’t wait to come back and try more things from the menu!!!!!!!

This week feels like it’s officially the start of soup season, so I randomly found a place on the way to see 🍁fall foliage🍂 and BOOM appears and now has my stomach on a tight leash!!

I really only wanted pho but the menu is so so so extensive and they have not only seafood boils with amazing sounding flavors like tamarind and salty egg but also hotpot with sturgeon(!!) and traditional viet dishes like Chao long tuoi (basically an organ porridge 🤤) on their specials board when you walk in.

I’ll definitely be coming back for the other dishes but for this visit, we went with a 💜large combination pho ($17.99) and a 💜Bo ne, which is steak, egg, pate with bread in a sizzling plate ($19.99) and they were both one of the best versions of it I’ve tasted so far. The broth come piping hot in the stone bowl & the noodles, vegetables, and meats came in a separate bamboo bowl. Presentation on point 🥹🥹 the broth was so flavorful and I inhaled it. So satisfied!!

Bf and I were CRAVING tacos (we miss texas) and we asked around for recommendations on the day and landed at .michoacan 🌮

🅿️Parking: they have a couple spots around the corner but you probably have to find street parking, a little difficult to find and you may have to wander in the neighborhood, but that doesn’t deter us from going again

We got the Al pastor, lengua, and tripas tacos ($3.79 per taco) - my fav were the 💜tripas! Could be a little more crispy but I’m also really particular 🤣 still hits the spot 100% and they got a full salsa bar and a great array of condiments as pictured. Tortillas were yummy toooo I think they’re homemade.

Next time def need to come back for the carnitas since I it’s in their store name!!

P.S. still taking taco recommendations - Mexican street tacos plz ty 🙏

Thai tea fix in Bellevue with a twist! 🧋
has Thai tea with adjustable sweetness AND you can add a cream top or even a Thai tea or ube soft serve on top!

I got the 💜Thai tea with Thai tea soft serve 25% sweetness with boba & the 💜Thai green tea latte with the cream top 50% sweetness with boba and I’d say the Thai teas themselves are pretty solid but I’d skip the boba bc of the chew & they stick together maybe because I’m a slow drink drinker so it gets stuck in the straw (and then u might spill some on your white shirt trying to get it out if u are clumsy but ambitious to get every drop like me) 🤪

After the Thai tea soft serve melts into the drink, it makes the drink more sweet and creamy, so I think 25% is ideal (it’s also still pretty sweet for someone like me who orders 0% at boba shops and gets sweetness off of the sweetness from the tapioca pearls 🤣).

Thai-chinese food?! 🥵

has a surprisingly expansive menu and the vibe is amazing! they even have these little couple seats near the front of the restaurant that could be a great option for a romantic lil date 💕 they have a paid parking lot & also paid street parking.

💜mama tom yum hotpot with crispy pork belly and minced pork ($20): surprisingly good value for a shareable hot pot - it has instant noodles in a creamy tom yum soup base with eggs, cilantro, and straw mushrooms with generous amounts of the selected protein. Super appetizing, great flavor, and pairs well with white rice 🤤

💜Chinese black olive green beans ($18): we were like “what is Chinese black olive” and wanted to try it but ended up not recognizing the taste in the dish either lmao but regardless they were like good Chinese style garlic green beans!

- Golden 4 corners ($15): has daikon cake, taro cake like in dimsum places, crispy tofu like those you get in stir fries, and corn fritters that were battered a lil thick and dry served with a sweet & spicy plum sauce. I loved the daikon + taro cake but the others I probably wouldn’t order again.

🥺overall will def make my way back to try the specialty noodles and salads and so many other dishes!

Just here to tell u that u needa burger
at located at Fremont

And if you like lamb and don’t mind the gamey taste, then you MUST try the 💜lamb burger ($17.50) with the pickled peppers, mahon, arugula, cured lemon, and chermoula sauce (trust me idk what some of these words are either) but i had this burger maybe 7 years ago and it was one of those life changing moments and im back and it still tastes as good as I remember it to be 😭💕 aromatic, meaty, a little bitter and tart from the tempura lemon that cuts through the rich sauces - so yummy.

The bf got the blue onion with added tomato and egg and sweet potato fries. I inhaled my own burger so I don’t really remember the taste on that one but it looks appetizing af. The 💜sweet potato fries ($4.75) were perfect too with the truffle mayo ($0.75) sauce. Garden salad ($8 for large) was fresh but the dressing lacked saltiness and acidity for me, but a salt packet fixed it.

Parking: they have maybe 2-3 designated parking spots in front but there’s also street parking! Not too bad!

pick your caffeine, pick your dairy, pick your add-ons - welcome to the very insta-worthy spot with quality drinks that’s not too sweet 😉

is a gem of a place for coffee/matcha/hojicha pick me up - I was walking around Seattle U and stumbled upon it while I was finding a place to sit down and read a book. The interior was v cute as well! I can see parking being a little challenging in the area though if you’re driving and wanting to stay a while, esp in the cap hill location so maybe just take the bus 😬

Ended up getting the 💜ube latte and 💜strawberry matcha (both $8.55 with taxes damn the prices do be a lil steep nowadays) and they were both yummy! Ube lattes tend to be too sweet for me but this one was mildly sweet even without adjustment. Matcha is ceremonial grade and the strawberry puree for the matcha is more like a smooth syrup and doesn’t have chunks in them. Make sure to mix the drinks well when you drink it to get the full experience! There’s so many options like pineapple, black sesame, banana milk, blueberry, strawberry shortcake, blueberry pie, and more to choose from, and you can also get it with alt milks like oat/almond/soy/coconut. So many options! Will be back! 🥰

not too sweet matcha croissant with filling heaven - 🍵

go before 11:30 on a weekday (there was 2 matcha mascarpone croissants left when I got there and you bet I got them both) and prob really early on a weekend 😝 bonus points for easy parking!

💜matcha mascarpone croissant ($7.25): good crust, good croissant, mildly sweet filling, would absolutely eat again, amazing

- Raspberry croissant ($6.25): yummy too but I think the filling was sparse

Very intrigued by the lemon meringue croissant and almond croissant is always a good idea so I’d def be back!!

can’t go a day without a good coffee or tea? same🧋☕️

These are the spots near Cap hill/First hill/ID i keep coming back to since i moved. It’s been about two weeks already!

For coffee, i’m an iced latte girl through and through, and i’ll never say no to tea: matcha, hojicha, jasmine, taiwanese classics. bonus points if it’s got creamy foam, chewy tapioca pearls, or something fun to chew on.

sweetness — usually 0%, but i’ll go for 30% if i think it’ll really hit.

Taking more recs btw I can never save too many spots 😝

💜URL coffee : “walk to work” ($6 - 12oz) less ice, iced latte with a house made sweet foam on top. I love how thick and sweet the foam is and it makes the mouthfeel and sweetness perfect as it melts into the latte. Whole drink doesn’t get too diluted as the ice melts. I keep coming back to this 🥰

💜Phin Vietnamese coffee .seattle : black sesame viet coffee ($6 for regular) - I never imagined these two together and they are a match made in heaven. Black sesame fans will looooove this one ☝️ heard great things about the pandan and they sell waffles too! will def be back

💜TP tea .washington : Crema mulberry tea ($7.75) you can’t adjust sweetness or ice for this one. I gotta say TP tea is just a solid boba shop all in all, I’ve never really not liked a drink from here. Tastes like a berry cheesecake in a drink

💜Comebuy : Osmanthus oolong tea brown sugar Konjac jelly ($6.50) 30% sweetness 50% ice - super light and refreshing with fun slightly sweet konjac jelly to chew on. Has more floral notes if you’ve not tried osmanthus yet, a personal favorite of mine

After 7 years in Austin, where this little food blog was finally born out of cabin fever during COVID and my everyday cravings and my goldfish brain wanting to document everything I eat so I don’t forget it, I’m hitting the road. It’s a see ya later - my heart will now always carry a little piece of the city with me where I found my voice, my little food community with every pop up and slurp…and I’m going to miss the BBQ 😮‍💨 no one does it like texas!

Next stop: Seattle, the beautiful PNW. I actually went to school here, and something about the drizzle, the gloom, the mountains peaking in and out the fog, then the perfect summers stayed with me and wanted me back, and so I followed. If you’ve been following along, thank you and I appreciate you💓 and if you’re new, hi - I’m here to eat well, rediscover the city, writing down my honest opinions as I go — let’s see what Seattle’s got! And again, as a quick guide to my writing style, if you see 💜 a purple heart, that means I’d eat that again. see you around.

An announcement with this post 🥹 I’m going to be leaving Austin to a new city end of this month so I’ve been busy packing and not eating out as much, but I’ve also been wanting to go to all these spots before I leave! One of them is and boyyyy oh boy was I happy I made time to go 😆! It’s a sister restaurants of Franklin’s BBQ too so you know it’s good 👍 they serve a mean brunch!

Great vibes all around, fair prices, and the food was delicious!
💜Uptown pancakes ($13): the best pancakes hands down I’ve had in Austin - they’re lemon ricotta with seasonal fruit and whipped mascarpone. Beautifully browned on the edges and nicely baked on the inside!
💜charbroiled oysters ($16): gulf oysters baked with garlic butter and Parmesan cheese - makes me miss New Orleans
💜Bloody Mary + topped with salad ($19): went for this tbh and I loved it 🥰 so over the top hahaha but it was actually a great salad and the Bloody Mary wasn’t too strong so the flavors balanced well!
We also got the shrimp poboy ($17) and gumbo bowl ($9), was decent but wasn’t my fav. The gumbo was a little too salty for my taste.

I’m a repeat customer at the cutest little diner with yummy classic brunch foods 🫶🏻 but better!

📍 has become one of my favorite places when I want eggs n pancakes for brunch! The menu might look like nothing too unique, but the food is 💋💋 from the dressing on the greens to the delicate soft egg made for the 💜French omelette, they pay attention to all things!

Service does get a bit busy during regular brunch hours but I always find myself coming back 😃 omg I tried the 💜pancake of the month today and I don’t even really like pancakes usually but the flavor was basically a McGriddle and I LOVEEEE the sweet and savory. Bacon bits inside the batter was generous and it was perfect with maple syrup! Go get it before the month ends! Bf says it’s the best pancake he’s ever had 🥞
