our first unicorn headcover bombed.

We’d been getting requests for a unicorn headcover for years. So we made one. But the first version bombed. We couldn’t figure out why it wasn’t selling. Then we saw a custom unicorn one of our staff’s had made. It had an earring, eye patch, and a bandana. It was fun! Ours wasn’t.

So we scrapped the design. We made a new one with a periwinkle coat, a rainbow mane, and a sparkly horn. We made it fun. Customers loved it and it started selling. But the best part about this headcover is that a portion of the proceeds goes to Girls Golf of Phoenix. A nonprofit that introduces girls ages 3-18 to the game of golf.

This is 16 at Desert Highlands. A par 3 that sits above North Scottsdale. It might be the most scenic par 3 in the Phoenix area. And it’s freshly renovated. The bentgrass greens and the tee boxes just got a facelift. Part of a $10M renovation DH finished last fall.

It plays:
242 from the Blacks
220 from the Blues
194 from the Whites

Kobe.

They built this halfway house into a billion-year-old rock.

This is The Rocks halfway house at Desert Highlands in Scottsdale, Arizona.

We came here to try the members’ favorite treat. But first browsed all the free snacks and ordered a steak and cheese. Now the treat. There’s a frozen yogurt machine. It’s free. And self-serve. After refueling we headed to hole 10. Whose tee boxes might have the best views anywhere on the property.

Desert Highlands reopened this fall after a full $10M renovation. Every element of the course was upgraded. From tees to greens. The bentgrass was in fantastic shape and there were amazing views of Scottsdale and the Phoenix Valley. Thank you Desert Highlands for having us out. It was an amazing experience.

These are the original patterns for our animal headcovers.

Think of patterns like stencils. Jane couldn’t afford pattern paper when she started Daphne’s. So she got creative. She asked her neighbors to save their old newspapers for her. She would then turn the newspaper into patterns. Then use those patterns to cut the fur to make animal headcovers. These are some of the original patterns.

Our raccoon is the last headcover Daphne designed with Jane, our CEO and Daphne’s daughter, before she passed.

Daphne was diagnosed with a brain tumor when Jane was 31. It was terminal. Naturally, they began to spend every weekend together. They spent that summer feeding raccoons on the deck of Daphne’s cabin. They studied the trash pandas closely. While soaking in the moments they had together.

After that summer Daphne and Jane got back on the sewing machines and redesigned our raccoon. It’s had a few facelifts over the years. But the design still resembles what Daphne and Jane created after that summer.
