Hi Thai Soul Family. We will be awarding our first annual Thai Soul Scholarship. This will be an annual award to help deserving students acheive their goals. I wanted to award gift certificates to Total Wine (what more could a student need?) but we decided to go the more traditional route. For our first awards we will be starting with 2 $500 scholarships. It's our way of giving back to those working hard to reach their goals. More news to follow.

Cheers!

Greg

Thai Soul Kitchen UPDATE: Hi All… Greg here owner of Thai soul kitchen. I just want to address the recent post concerning our restaurant. Full disclosure…. I have been out of the country for the past two weeks and only got home yesterday afternoon when I became aware of the post. After having a day to dig in and discussing with the staff, it turns out that the pork belly in question was not being prepared for our customers crispy pork belly appetizer. It was being prepared for the staff by one of the chefs as he likes to use the more traditional methods to prepare for staff parties. The Department of Health came by the restaurant today after a full discussion with the staff did a full inspection and gave us another passing grade. We are a community restaurant, and my doors and kitchen are always open for anyone to come by and look around and ask us anything they want. I am a little disappointed that the author chose to go scorched earth first and rile up a social media mob rather than walking up to me or even whomever was at the restaurant and having a discussion, but hopefully we can all learn from this misunderstanding. While I absolutely agree that her concerns were legitimate as a member of the community, Maybe the approach could have been different. That said I am still hopeful that if they have any questions, they will come to me directly in the future and we can have a discussion…. I also want to add that I am incredibly overwhelmed by the community support that was displayed. It actually left me a little emotional, knowing that we have connected with the community through our food. As a huge fan and admirer of Anthony Bourdain, the power of food as a common ground continues to inspire.

UPDATE: Hi All Thai Soul Kitchen Customers. There was a post today from a local resident regarding some pork left outside the back of the restaurant. This is an old practice in Thailand for preparing the crispy pork belly appetizer. The pork is boiled and then cured in the sun before being put into the deep fryer and fried until it is crispy. The new chef we hired last week is an older chef from Thailand and he was using this technique and we weren't aware of it. Many people might be surprised to learn that it is actually a technique used in many Thai restaurants in the Bay Area as well. We have instructed him to stop using this technique and cure the pork using our already established method. Please feel free to contact me directly at [email protected] if you have any questions or concerns.
