Planning a trip to Dubrovnik, Croatia? 🇭🇷 Save this mini cheat sheet.

Dubrovnik is so much more than the famous Old Town. Walk the city walls, take the cable car up Mount Srđ for incredible Adriatic views, swim at Banje or Šulić Beach, wander the little streets and get out on the water for sunset.

A few things I wish more people knew before visiting:

📍 Stay in Old Town for atmosphere and walkability, Ploče for views, or Lapad if you want beaches and a little more space.

☀️ May, June, September and October are my favorite times to consider. July and August are beautiful but HOT and very busy.

🚢 Check the cruise ship schedule before planning your Old Town day. Timing can make a huge difference.

👟 Bring comfortable shoes. Dubrovnik has a LOT of stairs.

⏰ Walk the walls early before the heat and biggest crowds arrive.

🌊 Leave time for the coast. A boat trip or sunset cruise was one of my favorite ways to experience Dubrovnik.

Cooler weather is my excuse to put sauna days back on the calendar. This is one of my favorite fall activities in Utah, and there’s actual research behind the hype.

Long-term studies in Finland have linked frequent sauna use with lower risks of fatal cardiovascular disease and dementia. That doesn’t prove the sauna caused those benefits, and an occasional visit isn’t the same as a regular habit studied over years.

But an afternoon somewhere warm, with a friend and no packed itinerary? I’m already interested.

Utah fall colors do NOT peak everywhere at the same time 🍁

The biggest mistake is waiting for one “perfect” October weekend. Fall starts at the highest elevations and gradually moves down into the canyons, foothills and valleys.

Here is the general timeline I use:

🍂 Mid-September: High Uintas, Mirror Lake Highway, Guardsman Pass and the highest mountain elevations

🍂 Late September: Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons, Park City, Provo Canyon, the Alpine Loop and upper Nebo Loop

🍂 Early to mid-October: Lower canyon areas, foothills, Salt Lake Valley and Utah Valley

These are planning windows, not guarantees. Heat can delay the color, while wind, snow or a hard freeze can shorten peak almost overnight.

Before you drive, check:

• Recent photos and reviews on AllTrails
• Live UDOT cameras near your route
• Mountain resort webcams
• The latest posts tagged at the exact location
• Weather and seasonal road conditions

My best advice? Choose two routes at different elevations. If the highest area is already past peak, drive lower instead of giving up on the day.

September might be one of the best months to live in Utah. Summer isn’t quite over, fall starts showing off in the mountains, and there is SO much happening around Salt Lake City.

A few things to put on your September 2026 calendar:

🍽️ Squeeze in a few more patio dinners
🥾 Get outside for National Public Lands Day
🏔️ Plan a fall day trip into the Wasatch Mountains

September is that sweet spot when you can still have a summer afternoon and end the day surrounded by the first signs of fall.
