With such a hot dry summer, I figured there was a good chance that this fall might not be all that vivid. Boy was I wrong about that. Nature has put on an amazing show to excite the eyes before everything is covered in a blanket of white.

This summer I had a lot of great days shooting mountain biking in the Wasatch Mountains. This day was unique in that I was shooting with someone that I’ve worked with a bunch on snow but never in the dirt, Mr. GS Ted Ligety . We know how his skills on two skis are the best in the world and his skill set on two wheels ain’t too shabby either. He takes the same dynamic fluid movement from the snow right into the trail. And always has a blast doing it!

I shot the FOX US Open MTB Downhill race this past weekend at Deer Valley. I had hoped to shoot the World Cup DH at Solitude earlier this summer but was booked that weekend and couldn’t shoot it, so this was my first WC Downhill and what a hoot. So many interesting spots on the course and the skill set that downhillers is just incredible. I felt like I was just going full gas all day because there was so much to shoot. If you’ve never seen a pro level MTB Downhill, go do it, you’ll be floored!

This 1973 Porsche 911S is a time machine. It takes you right back to long hair and classic rock. It’s been restored back to the state it was in when it rolled off the production line. The sounds and smells that are unique to this generation of Porsche just bring the experience all together.

Shot the Pro,1,2 race at the Salt Lake City Crit this past Saturday night. Miss the days when I could ride at this level but it was fun to photograph it. Even pinned on a number and lined up on Sunday morning to give it a shot with the lower categories, but it appears that my engine needs a tune up so I ended the race as a spectator. However, the best part of the entire weekend was running into so many friends for decades of racing that I hadn’t seen in a while. This event draws in so many people that I spent a couple of hours catching up with my brothers in arms. Such a great time!

Yesterday there was a spectacular cloud over the Wasatch Mountains that caught my attention. The underside of it had a dirty color even though most of it was pure white. A wildfire burning to the north east of Salt Lake City was billowing up its own storm system. As the sun went down, there was a large red glow coming from the source of the fire so I decided to drive to a place where I could safely see it from a distance. It’s beautiful and terrifying at the same time. The closest I got was to within about seven miles. Didn’t want to be any closer anyway. Change of wind direction can make that kind of a situation go from safe to get the hell out of here very quickly. I’ll take another look tonight and hope that it doesn’t get any closer to people’s homes or property. I have a good friend who lives in a small town that could literally be in the line of fire today.

Despite the dry winter, the wildflowers are pretty amazing this summer. I shot some mountain biking on Bonanza Flats with my friends from JANS Experts and White Pine Touring a week ago. It was such a great way to escape the heat in the valley and get a little exercise in the process.

Meet my new friend Duke. He’s the latest addition to the avalanche dog family at Deer Valley Resort . He and his dad Luke are just getting started on training to rescue avalanche victims. So if you were caught in a slide, Duke could be the first face you see. Hopefully he never has to search for a real victim and instead just has a career of training and games. But if the worst happens, these two will give 💯 % to save you!

These are from a fun project that I shot a few weeks ago. This is a Twelve Air. Custom car from the ground up. Looks like an early Corvette but this isn’t a restoration, it was made from raw aluminum. F1 type suspension, 12 cylinder engine. Absolutely beautiful.
