~Granny's Old Fashion Blackberry Dumplings~
2 quarts washed fresh blackberries
1 cup white sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 cups water
1 cup pineapple juice
2 tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juice
1/2 tsp salt
Sprinkle cinnamon
Sprinkle nutmeg
Sprinkle ginger
βDirectionsβ
Combine all ingredients in a large Dutch oven pot.
Bring to a boil on med/high .
(While you wait for the blackberries to reach a boil work on the Dumplings, very easy, very quick!!)
When Berry mixture reaches a boil, you should be done making dumplings!!
Dumplings
2 cups SELF RISING flour
1/2 cup water or milk
1/3 -1/2 cup of cold CRISCO vegetable shortening (a ball about the size of an egg)
Sprinkle cinnamon
Sprinkle ginger
1/4 cup sugar
1 tsp salt
βDIRECTIONSβ
Pinch the cold crisco into the DRY flour mixture until it is a green pea size consistency. ( FLOUR, SALT, CINNAMON, GINGER)
Once you have pinched in the cold crisco, add water or milk to create a shaggy dough.
The, either roll out the dough to create flat dumplings or spoon it to make fluffy dumplings.
Once all yourdumplingsg have been added, put a lid on, reduce heat to simmer low for about 30-40 minutes. Allow it to cool for a few minutes, annnnd WHALAAAAA!! Enjoy with a scoop of your favorite ice cream!!
