Let's clear up some myths about espresso!

Many people assume espresso means a darker roast or more caffeine—but that's not necessarily true.

Our Espresso nr 2 is simply a blend of beans we've chosen because they create the flavor profile we're looking for when brewed as espresso.

So why the confusion?

An espresso shot is made with about 18 grams of coffee and roughly 1 ounce of water. A typical mug also uses about 18 grams of coffee, but with around 8 ounces of water.

Same amount of coffee. Much less water.

That's why espresso tastes so much bolder—it's more concentrated. And while the caffeine can vary slightly depending on the beans and how it's brewed, a single espresso shot generally contains a similar amount of caffeine as a standard cup brewed from the same amount of coffee.

So what does that mean for our Espresso nr 2?
It's roasted between a medium and full city roast—no darker than necessary and no differently than the rest of our coffees. The name espresso doesn't mean it's only for espresso machines.

It pulls a rich, balanced espresso shot—but it also makes a tasty morning cup.

Every coffee roaster has someone who helped them along the way. For me, that’s Jamie.

Jamie founded Coastal Coffee Roasters, and years ago I walked into her shop to introduce myself. Before I could say a word, she already knew who I was.

Since then, she’s taught me more than how to roast coffee. She showed me the value of community over competition, collaboration over ego, and friendship over business.

Cast 26 Coffee wouldn’t be what it is today without people like Jamie who were willing to share what they knew and cheer someone else on.
