John, I just finished Blooms Of Old Cahaba! This is an outstandingly written book. It compares favorably with Gone With The Wind. I look forward to my next visit to Cahaba and seeing the mansions (in my mind as I know they no longer are standing) and meet the people that you have written about as I know they are still there in spirit! Now I turn my reading to Rice And Cotton....you have me hooked my friend!

Bart, my friend! You are too kind. Also, I could not have done this without my multi-talented co-author Judy Cooper. Concerning your remarks just above, may I share them openly with the public? Just asking! Take care my friend. Maybe we can meet at Old Cahaba before we get too old!

Sure you may share it! I am into Rice And Cotton now and love it too.

This photo: Safford Post Office! It was constructed in the summer of 1954. My dad John A. Givhan, and others, helped Mr. J. P. Majors build it. That 1954 Safford summer was the hottest, driest, in my memory.

[John B. Givhan] I am going to have to "withdraw" from the Oct 9, 2010 Safford Community House BBQ event due to "old age" on my part primarily. (Please refer to postings on this site dated: March, 2010.)

Mrs. Stroud owned The Spot to Eat when I was a
small boy. I was born in 1940. My father John A. Givhan and Buster
Stroud, son of Mrs. Stroud, were good friends. Daddy and Buster went to
the Chicago World's Fair 1933 together on somebody's car. (John B. Givhan)
